Full Job Description

The Maintenance Manager role is vital to the success of the engineering department and wider manufacturing business objectives. You will be responsible for the future development of the maintenance function, collaborating closely with the Site Engineering Manager and being a valuable part of the engineering leadership team. Reporting into this role is a team of engineers and engineering apprentices.
The factory is split into two operational areas, each area has an Maintenance Manager who deals with the day-to-day engineering and production agenda. The Maintenance Manager streamlines and improves current working practices and processes whilst improving and developing impactful teams. In short, you are there to make tomorrow a better place!
Initially, your key role is driving the sites' ambition to move away from a traditional maintenance program to an on-line Reliability Based Maintenance plan using the latest condition-based monitoring techniques.
What will be your key results?
The aim is to manufacture the company's product to an agreed specification in an efficient and safe manner. pladis produces a variety of products to meet customer needs and therefore the daily focus for everyone needs to be on achieving the daily requirements right first time, in a safe factory environment at an improved ongoing cost.
H&S and Quality

  • Lead all Health, Safety and Environmental aspects of engineering within area of responsibility, including some specific Responsible Person responsibilities for key areas of safety compliance.

  • Help to generate and maintain compliance to DSOP's/ Risk Assessments / Maintenance Risk Assessments / Permit to work systems.

  • Take personal responsibility for health, safety and environment.

  • Be part of the Engineering Health and Safety team

  • Ensure compliance with Everyday Quality processes.

  • Maintain high standards of Hygiene and Housekeeping.

  • Consider and apply sustainability, waste minimisation and Energy consumption where appropriate.

  • Lead the team in day-to-day maintenance and delivery of the overall engineering strategy.


  • Maintenance
  • Lead the R&M budget for area of responsibility, ensuring maximum business benefit from available funds

  • Schedule and plan long term horizon activities to feed into the budget process (1-5 yr. horizon).

  • Management of the engineering departments critical metrics

  • Planning and Scheduling against budget requirement.

  • Deliver the transition to condition-based monitoring, utilising authority support from 53 North

  • Delivery and coordination of planned maintenance and shutdown activities

  • Scheduling (through the maintenance planner) weekly maintenance activities

  • Streamlining the maintenance activities

  • Maintain SAP Asset history.


  • Team management
  • Deputise for the Site Engineering Manager when required

  • Be part of the rota to cover the role of Weekend Duty Engineering Manager

  • Direct line management for Engineering Technicians plus contractors

  • Running the apprentice programme

  • Apprentice development

  • Support and champion the implementation of the ATM role within the site

  • Operator development through support and mentoring

  • Organise and schedule training throughout the year

  • Delivery of two training Days

  • HR management duties ie recruitment, disciplinaries, absence management, OH, PDP

  • Onboarding new staff member.


  • OPEX
  • Ensuring all failures >120 minutes are fully understood and closed out using standard RCA techniques supporting the Maintenance Manager and production managers.

  • Supply to loss reviews, to drive improvements in all aspects of Site performance.

  • Support the Tiered Accountability process both personally and through direct reports

    Confirmed knowledge of condition-based monitoring techniques

  • SAP PM and MM knowledge

  • Lean engineering knowledge

  • Mechanical and Electrical comprehension skills

  • Fault finding skills

  • Problem solving skills

  • Data analysis & interpretation skills

  • Risk assessment trained

  • Permit to work trained

  • Full understanding of safe working practices and relevant legislation where applicable

  • Accuracy/attention to detail

  • Knowledge of COSHH

  • Sound PC skills

  • Problem solving techniques

  • Experience of engineering maintenance/planning in a similar FMCG environment

  • Experience of implement a condition-based monitoring programme

  • Green belt trained
