Full Job Description

  • Supervise and support students during mealtimes, ensuring their safety and well-being.

  • Assist students with special needs in accessing their meals, providing appropriate support and encouragement.

  • Foster independence and self-help skills among students, encouraging them to manage their own meals where possible.

  • Maintain a clean, tidy, and hygienic dining environment, including clearing away used utensils and wiping down tables.

  • Assist with the setup and clean-up of mealtime areas before and after each meal service.

  • Work collaboratively with other staff members, including teachers, teaching assistants, and the school cook, to ensure the smooth operation of mealtimes.

  • Attend training sessions as required to stay updated on relevant policies, procedures, and best practice.

  • Follow safeguarding procedures and report any concerns about the welfare of students to the appropriate authorities., This job description outlines the primary duties and responsibilities of the Mealtime Assistant role at Expanse Learning. Additional tasks may be assigned as needed by the Head Teacher or other senior staff members.

    Previous experience working with children or young people, especially those with special needs, is desirable but not essential.

  • Good communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with students, colleagues, and other stakeholders.

  • Basic understanding of health and safety regulations, particularly as they relate to food handling and hygiene.

  • Ability to remain calm under pressure.

  • Willingness to undergo relevant training, including safeguarding and first aid training, as required by the school.
