Full Job Description

The Service Hand supports the Production Supervisor across a multitude of routine and ad hoc activities to maintain the safe, efficient and undisturbed flow of production. The nature of the role is fluid, depending on the production activity and can change from time to time.

General Responsibilities

  • Complete any general activities as instructed by the Production Supervisor and/or Cell Leader

  • General movement of materials, goods and WIP including support to Goods In process as and when required

  • Contract support as and when required

  • Support each Bay and Cell in maintaining excellent housekeeping and high cleanliness standards

  • Complete weekly service hand log sheets including but not limited to:

  • Carry out routine procedures / checks on equipment (cranes, forklift trucks, MEWP etc.)

  • Regular sweeping, cleaning and tidying of working areas

  • Check and empty all internal waste bins as required

  • Empty and clean swarf bins

  • Coolant changes and waste coolant removal

  • Replenish internal gas bottle storage

  • Identify misplaced lifting gear and return to rigging loft

  • Identify misplaced COSHH and return to chemical cupboards

  • Cleaning of floors in gangways, walkways, storage areas, around/inside machine boundaries

  • Maintain cleanliness of factory perimeters including drains

  • Painting of floors, walls, doors, skirtings etc. as required

  • Control of laydown areas, bollards, barriers and signage

  • Replenish all dispenser stations - PPE, Sanitation

  • Management of key cabinets

  • Preparing the facility for planned closures e.g. Christmas shut-down

    Experience as general maintenance person/handyman or similar

  • Good verbal and written communication skills and ability to work within a team

  • Good awareness of EHS requirements within an industrial environment

  • Ability to record work accurately

  • Confident, enthusiastic and proactive

  • Lifting & Slinging experience

  • High standards of housekeeping

  • Good general maintenance and DIY skills

  • Previous experience working within an industrial environment

  • Full clean driver's licence

  • Trade skills

  • Overhead crane operator

  • IOSH Working Safely or other Health & Safety courses

  • First aid trained

  • Fire warden / fire marshal trained

  • Fork Lift Truck / Counterbalance trained

  • IPAF qualified (Cherry Picker, Scissor Lift), GCSE or equivalent (preferred), general maintenance/handyperson: 1 year (preferred)
