Full Job Description

The successful candidate will provide technical support to the Fouracre Group within the School of Biological Sciences. The overarching research aim of the Fouracre Group is to understand how developmental timing is regulated in plants. To help achieve this aim you will carry out a range of molecular and genetic analyses of plant development. You will be expected to manage specific research projects semi-independently, diagnose and solve experimental problems, develop and maintain genetic resources and support the training of undergraduate and postgraduate students.

What will you be doing?

You will use a variety of standard experimental techniques to make fundamental insights into plant development. These techniques include DNA/RNA extraction, amplification and quantification; molecular cloning, production of transgenic plants, histological examination, protein and chromatin assays and sequencing library preparation. In addition to carrying out the techniques themselves you will help to train other members of the research group as necessary. You will record the results of their experiments and describe them during regular lab meetings.

  • Experience of working in a molecular biology laboratory with extensive experience of modern molecular and genetic techniques

  • Experience of working with plants and/or enthusiasm for using plants as model systems

  • Excellent IT skills and an ability to use new software

  • Excellent organisational skills

  • Enjoy working with others to solve research problems
