Sixth Form Study Supervisor

JOB PURPOSE

To supervise the use of the study rooms by all students

To support students develop skills of independent study

To maintain a purposeful atmosphere in the study rooms by setting high standards and expectations

To monitor student attendance and participation

RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY DUTIES

Principle Responsibilities

* The management of one of the sixth form study rooms, ensuring that students work purposefully during their study periods

* Work collaboratively with all members of the pastoral team to support students in their learning out of lessons

* Oversee the attendance records for sixth form students, providing the Sixth Form team with regular attendance reports

Key Duties

Study Supervision

* Maintain a quiet and purposeful working atmosphere in the study room, intervening if and when required

* Ensure that the study room is kept in good order as an environment suitable for quiet study

* Actively engage with students to ensure that they make productive use of their study periods

* Liaise with subject leader to identify ways for students to maximise the learning in their study periods

* Maintain a stock of subject resources for student use in the study rooms

* Oversee a system for return of textbooks and resources at the end of the academic year

* Oversee the registration and signing-in of students during study periods

* Provide study support for individual students where appropriate

* Assist individual students with time management strategies

* Maintain an accurate record of enrichment activities undertaken by the students on Wednesday afternoons or through the week

* Keep an accurate record of timetables for any students with alternative provision

* Ensure all promotional display material relating to post-18 opportunities are up-to-date

* Support the Careers team in promoting events and providing administrative support where necessary

Sixth Form Attendance

* Maintain registers for students using the study room during their study periods

* Input pre-planned absence information onto the SIMS system

* Investigate unexplained daily absence

* Keep teaching staff up-to-date with interventions in place for long term or persistent absentees

* Produce a termly report on attendance for tutors and the sixth form team

* Distribute a termly attendance report to parents for all sixth form students

* Input monthly attendance figures into the attendance monitoring spreadsheet

General Administration

* Contact teaching staff, parents/carers, outside agencies, administrative staff as an when required to support student attendance and participation

* Provide administrative support for Sixth Form events, such as Sixth Form Open Evening

* Participate in the school's appraisal process

Such other duties as may be determined from time to time within the general scope of the post.

Professional development

* To take responsibility for one's own professional development in order to ensure continued effectiveness in the role.

* To participate in the Performance Management arrangements of the school.

General responsibilities

* To participate in Staff Training Days and other training opportunities as required.

* To comply with all financial, safety, data protection, IT software licensing, child protection and equal opportunity requirements and any other relevant guidelines.

* To contribute to the School Improvement Plan.

* Ensuring Customer Care and Quality initiatives are adhered to.

* Commitment and contribution to improving the standards for students as appropriate.

* Contributing to the maintenance of a caring and stimulating environment for students.

* To provide support as relevant to the Business Manager

* To undertake any other reasonable duties as may be agreed from time to time with the Business Manager

Reports to: Head of Sixth Form

Other Contacts: Other staff, students, parents, visitors and outside organizations

The post holder will interact professionally with colleagues to ensure understanding and awareness of responsibilities of all members of the school team and undergo/provide any relevant training necessary.

The post holder will need to undertake some additional Health and Safety training to support the department's needs as required.

To carry out such other duties as may be determined from time to time within the general scope of the post.

Person Specification for Sixth Form Study Supervisor

Experience:

Working in a busy and demanding environment

This post would suit someone with experience of working in an educational setting

Qualifications or Training: Good level of general education (eg 5 GCSEs or equivalent including English and Maths)

Practical Skills: Clear communication skills, oral and written

PROBATIONARY PERIOD

All employees are required to undergo a six month probationary period, during which suitability for the position is assessed.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

All employees are responsible for reading, understanding and carrying out the requirements of the School's Health and Safety Policy and for informing a relevant person if they become aware of any non-compliance with the policy or of any identified training needs.

CONTINUAL PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The School requires individuals to identify and analyse their own training and development needs and to actively participate in the design of a development plan to meet these needs and the needs of the School. This may be achieved through an appraisal process.

The post holder should recognise and take advantage of development opportunities and should periodically review their own progress towards meeting previously agreed goals.

SPECIAL ARRANGEMENTS

The post holder may be required to work additional days to support the role as dictated by School.
