Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified Accountant (CIPFA, CIMA, ACCA or equivalent) to join our finance team.

As a key enabling service, finance supports financial management across the whole council, as well as external clients and our council owned companies.

As a newly restructured team supporting the Council to maintain a strong grip on its finances, we are currently working to: reorganise the former 8 council budgets into a single cohesive budget for NYC; help managers to understand the opportunities for transformation and savings; support the development of skills within strategic and budget managers; develop new ways of working across all financial disciplines to ensure efficient and effective financial processes.

The service comprises a range of professional/technical roles which support a generic flexible structure. Teams are organised into directorate (or client group) teams and targeted at higher risk budgets/services/projects. This in turn enables: strong working relationships; an in-depth understanding of client finances; and value added services.

Building knowledge and expertise across our service is key to our success and whilst this vacancy is within a specific team, in time, our flexible structure provides opportunity for job rotation, giving team members the chance to grow their skills and experience whilst building resilience across the whole team.

As part of the business partnering team supporting the Community Development directorate and reporting to a Senior Accountant, you will work with minimum supervision and take the lead on substantial pieces of work. The work includes supporting budget managers through budget setting and monitoring and accounts closedown, both in respect of revenue and capital spend.

In return for your hard work, we can offer you a supportive team environment with plenty of development opportunities, flexible working hours, a combination of home and office working, 28 days annual leave (plus bank holidays), raising to 34 after five years' service, generous local government pension and green car scheme.

The service has embraced modern work practices, enabling colleagues to work from home, or any of our offices across the county. We come together as a team for development, connection and collaboration, otherwise we work where its most productive to do so. You will be provided with technology to enable efficient and effective work, ensuring that you are connected and well supported.
