Full Job Description

Under the direction of the Site Operations Manager, the Apprentices will work within the Operations Department, performing various operations and maintenance duties to ensure the safe, environmentally compliant, and efficient running of the plant at Saltend Chemicals Park (SCP).

This is very much a 'hands-on' role and, under supervision, your responsibilities will include:

  • working safely in a high-hazard environment - our culture is 'safety first, with zero harm to people, environment, asset and plant.'

  • assisting in the start-up, operation and shut-down of plant systems

  • monitoring, inspecting and controlling plant conditions to ensure plant systems and processes are operating within operational parameters, making adjustments to maximise plant efficiency, minimise cost, meet environmental compliance and ensure product specification

  • resolving and reporting, or escalating, process, quality, health and safety, environment, and operating environment issues when operating out of normal parameters

  • working alongside the plant engineering and maintenance department to conduct first line routine maintenance and testing of process and plant equipment

  • conducting handover responsibilities - receiving information from or providing information to other shifts or maintenance teams

  • completing process documentation

  • supporting site projects and audits, and contributing to the development and improvement of procedures and policies covering site operational and maintenance activities.

    We are seeking two Process Operations Apprentices to join our Operations Team at Saltend Chemicals Park. The role will involve various operations and maintenance duties to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the plant

  • Qualification requirements Minimum 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade 4 (C) or above, including English, mathematics and science.,

  • BTEC L3 Extended Certificate in Engineering

    Delivery model: The first 12 months of the apprenticeship will be spent full time at HETA (Humberside Engineering Training Association Ltd.) to complete the foundation training and qualification, with a minimum 2 weeks of site placements. This will be followed by 18 months of hands-on, onsite training at Saltend Chemicals Park, with regular support and guidance visits from your HETA assessor, and an allowance of up to 6 months for end point assessment.

    This role is part of our talent planning for the future and, for the right person, we are looking to continue to develop the Apprentice upon successful completion of the Apprenticeship.

    Saltend is set to host the flagship project of the Zero Carbon Humber scheme, which aims to be the first Net Zero industrial cluster by 2040. The flagship project, Hydrogen to Humber Saltend (H2H Saltend), will convert natural gas into hydrogen using an Auto Therma Refortmer (ATR), and will use Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology to capture CO2 for storage offshore., px group provides innovative operations management, engineering services and energy management solutions to high hazard, highly regulated industries.

    Px Group is responsible for processing around 30% of the UK's gas supply and operates many of the UK's strategic sites on behalf of its clients, including gas terminals, power plants, renewables and chemicals sites.

    Salary £16000
    The Apprentice will start on a fixed annual salary for the first year. This will be reviewed annually in line with performance.
