Full Job Description

Little Stars (Deeside) is looking for an apprentice to join the existing staff team.

Responsibilities - Operational

· To deliver a high standard of learning, development and care for children aged 0-8 years.

· Adhering to the policies and procedures of Little Stars Deeside Ltd and compliance with the Children Act 1989 & 2004, Health and Safety legislation and within the guidelines of CIW and the National Minimum Standards. Ensuring confidentiality is maintained in the nursery.

· Understand that each child is an individual and have a general understanding of childcare and child development.

· Observe each child's progress and report on achievements, looking for progression and continuity.

· Offering all children equal opportunities with regard to their religious persuasion, racial origins, gender, disabilities, cultural or linguistic background; in particular, challenge situations where racism or discrimination is displayed.

· Positive management of children's behaviour following the nursery behaviour policy and working in partnership with parents and management.

· Providing a good role model for students.

· Recording and completing all legal documents as required by CIW.

· Develop positive relationships with parents/ guardians, other staff and outside agencies.

· Assist with the continuous supervision of children at all times, indoors, outdoor and at mealtimes.

· Assist with the planning of activities, suitable for the age range of the children, following the guidelines for the implementation of the ECPLC.

· Assist with the creation of stimulating and inviting environments.

· Attend parents meetings; be involved in fundraising events and assist with the promotion of the nursery as required.

· The care and supervision of the children with regard to their physical, emotional and intellectual needs.

· Assist with the care, maintenance and security of all equipment and toys within the nursery.

· Any other duties appropriate to the post as directed by the nursery manager and team leaders.

Personal

· To attend staff meetings and training sessions as required.

· Be responsible for participating in all self-development activities, including appraisal, supervisions etc.

· To complete all academic aspects of the apprenticeship.

· Reliable, flexible and enthusiastic.

· To be able to work on own initiative and work to time scales.

· To have positive relationships with all staff working within the nursery at all times.

Health and Safety

· Undertake a shared responsibility for health and safety, hygiene and cleanliness throughout the nursery and to understand the importance of PPE.

· Ensure the general cleanliness of the children at all times.

· Operate the highest standard of hygiene and cleanliness in the bedding and nappy changing area and food service areas.

· Be familiar with all emergency and security procedures, e.g. Fire procedures, routines for dropping off and collecting children.

· Attend mandatory training courses when required.

· Understand the importance of PPE.

General

· Ensure the company's Equal Opportunities policy is adhered to at all times.

Meet the criteria required to enrol on a level 2 or 3 qualification



  • - Previous experience working within a nursery


  • - Previous childcare experience with age range three months to 8 years


  • - Good communication skills (oral and written)


  • - Knowledge of Health and Safety issues.


  • - Knowledge and Understanding of Children's Act.


  • - Affinity with young children.


  • - Ability to work as a reliable member of the team, developing positive

    relationships with colleagues, parents, children and outside agencies.


  • - Knowledge and understanding of Equal Opportunities.


  • - First aid certificate

    The successful candidate will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check.
