The Opportunity

We're looking for you to join us as our next Nuclear Island (NI) N2 Engineering Manager, where you'll lead strategic technical initiatives within the NI Area of HPC, ensuring optimal project outcomes. Your role will encompass a diverse range of complex technical challenges, with a special emphasis on providing strategic and delivery leadership in the Instrumentation and Control (I&C) discipline for HPC. You'll also be working closely with I&C teams across the project to drive success and innovation.

As our Area Engineering Manager, you'll be overseeing critical components like safeguard and access buildings, along with essential mechanical, electrical, and I&C safety systems within them. Reporting to the NI Area Engineering Senior Manager, you'll take on a senior leadership role, spearheading the delivery of our most intricate and influential technical initiatives., As the NI N2 Engineering Manager, you'll dive into diverse areas, connecting with stakeholders and attending meetings to ensure project-wide awareness. You'll tackle emerging risks head-on, crafting pragmatic solutions and simplifying complexities to drive optimal decisions. Collaborating with various teams, you'll shape the project's risk landscape, balancing priorities to enhance decision-making and visibility. Leading a skilled team and contributing to larger engineering efforts, you'll play a pivotal role in driving project success.

Other roles and responsibilities of this role will also include:

  • Collaborate with senior managers and stakeholders to identify and resolve high-risk technical issues efficiently.

  • Foster strong relationships with I&C and N2 teams, construction teams, and engineering organisations across France and the UK.

  • Lead the delivery of I&C topics, ensuring alignment with project expectations and schedules.

  • Drive I&C engineering delivery within project budgets, exercising strategic and commercial management.

  • Produce comprehensive reports for weekly escalations and monthly boards, serving as the technical reporting focal point.

  • Chair decision-making and governance committees to ensure optimal project decisions.

  • Proactively manage risks for the N2 area and I&C discipline, implementing mitigation plans as needed.

  • Collaborate with programs and technical teams to prioritise tasks and maximise efficiency.

  • Advocate for pragmatic decision-making aligned with project goals, focusing on technical integrity and risk mitigation.

  • Provide line management for a small team of engineers, including recruitment, training, and performance management.

    To be suitable for this role, we're looking for you to hold a relevant degree in engineering or science and strive for chartership in your discipline to showcase your commitment to professional growth as well as wanting you to:


  • Bring extensive experience in the nuclear industry, demonstrating familiarity with safety cases and regulatory frameworks.

  • Showcase your proficiency in various engineering disciplines, such as I&C, mechanical, and safety case, emphasising your ability to collaborate with experts.

  • Demonstrate your capacity to lead complex technical and commercial discussions, managing substantial budgets while maintaining a strong technical perspective.

  • Highlight your involvement across the entire project lifecycle for complex EPC projects, including design, construction, commissioning, and ideally operations.

  • Prioritise delivery excellence in your approach to projects, underscoring your commitment to achieving results.

  • Illustrate your adeptness in communicating with senior leadership and navigating multi-cultural environments within major projects and organisations.

  • Fluent English proficiency is a must, with proficiency in French being advantageous for effective communication.
