RPS Design Division delivers projects across multiple, niche sectors from residential housing developments, logistics, retail, aviation, healthcare, education, advanced manufacturing, data centres, energy and more as we strive to achieve the right balance between form and function when faced with competing priorities around sustainability, materiality, cost and constructability. Digitalisation is at the core of our delivery model allowing our clients and their stakeholders to really experience our designs right from project concept stage and through drawing on expertise spanning decades, industries and disciplines, we assist clients to harmonise design drivers through inspired engineering, architecture and development services.

What you'll be doing:

This is an exciting role for an individual looking to progress their career as an Associate Building Physics Engineer within our industry leading team where we have an excellent reputation, offering a wealth of expertise in all sectors.

Duties Include:

  • Managing day-to-day activities of a team (mentoring, development and financial control)

  • Managing resources to ensure work gets allocated appropriately

  • Checking the high quality of work of others in all technical aspects of building performance modelling

  • Embed into projects to shape sustainability/ NZC design strategies.

  • Working closely with Directors to implement strategic plans across teams across the UK

  • Manage performance, quality and workflow of the Building Performance Team

  • Assist in developing and promoting RPS's multi-discipline capability in the local market

  • Identify opportunities to ensure RPS remains a leader in sustainability in the built environment

  • Work with non-specialist RPS Building Services Engineers to facilitate and encourage the use of the IES-VE Suite of tools by these specific designers

  • Mentor and assist with the development of engineers across the teams

  • Undertake dynamic thermal modelling (IES-VE) analysis, Experienced in NABERS or TM54 design stage operational energy assessments

  • Experienced in preparing high quality reports that clearly and concisely communicate the issues involved and the conclusions as the preparation of sustainability and energy strategies

  • Experienced of undertaking calculations, production of models, specifications and reports, site surveys, construction stage duties

  • Experienced in client liaison and liaison with members of design/construction teams, project management, costing which complied with project briefs


  • Additionally, you will:

  • Support best practice in building physics and building modelling throughout the business, delivering research and development tasks to enhance knowledge

  • Undertake studies relating to BREEAM Credit evidence

  • Manage residential Approved Document L assessments utilising accredited SAP software as part of large scale energy strategies

  • Prepare Energy & Sustainability Statements for developments to complement planning submissions

  • Coordinate and manage energy/sustainability contributions from stakeholders

  • Support bidding for new opportunities including contributions to marketing material and attendance at interviews for projects at a range of scales

  • Undertake building performance design and consultancy work

    To be successful in this role you will most likely you will have experience of leading thermal modelling and energy strategy work on multi-disciplinary projects across a range of sectors. You will have a CEng or working towards it and a Level 4 and 5 accredited Energy Assessor (LCEA). You will also have the following
