Full Job Description

Reporting into the Director, London BIA Accounting the Associate, Business Initiatives and Analytics will be involved in two key areas of the team's work so the role provides good variety and exposure to many different financial products. The first aspect will be to complete daily and monthly reporting functions as directed by the Director of the BIA Accounting team. The second is to assist the team in being the UK Finance point of contact to the business and infrastructure partners on ad hoc queries and new business initiatives. This support is primarily focused on London businesses and partners but is sometimes part of a larger global initiative., Reporting

  • Be accountable for daily, monthly and quarterly management and statutory reporting and reviews as assigned by Director.

  • This includes reporting and checks regarding hedge accounted products, XVAs and commentary on monthly P&L variances.

  • Be constantly aiming to continuously automate and improve processes.


  • New Initiatives and Analytics
  • Accountable for carrying out the responsibilities assigned by Director for London BIA Accounting in relation to providing input and feedback on Change Initiative Risk Assessments, Accounting standard changes and CIBC accounting policies.

  • Act as point of contact for the business on queries and requests including new product setup and enhancements to current Front Office capabilities. Also accountable for communicating status and resolution to Director BIA Accounting.

  • Actively participate in the initiatives and projects the London BIA Accounting team are working on.

  • Represent London BIA Accounting on various project teams interacting with peers, and business partners from across the regions.

  • Act as advisory service to other Finance groups to promote continuous improvement to process.


  • CROSS-FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
  • Frequent Contact with CIBC Front Office to understand Ad Hoc requests or new initiatives.

  • Regular contact with CIBC Operations on ad hoc queries and initiatives to understand the impact of their process on Finance as well as helping those teams to establish effective processes for finance led initiatives.

  • Regular contact with technology teams to understand system defects which are leading to accounting issues.

  • Frequent contact with Finance teams based in Toronto to review and discuss details on reporting and accounting.

  • Frequent contact with CIBC Finance, Risk Management, Business Management and Accounting Policy with respect to ad hoc queries and new initiatives.

  • Occasional or as assigned contact with internal and external auditors, control division and compliance with regard to processes and controls.

  • Contact with CIBC Technology on new releases regarding testing of data and functionality, ad hoc queries and impacts of new initiatives.


  • COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • As an employee of CIBC, the incumbent must comply with all applicable CIBC and Line of Business policies, guidelines and controls.

    Qualified Accountant;

  • Undergraduate University degree;

  • Strong A levels or equivalent;

  • Minimum of three years' experience since graduation;

  • Any experience within relevant industry preferred;

  • Prior experience working on source system to general ledger feeds an advantage;

  • Experience of using SAP products would be useful;

  • Strong initiative and ability to suggest and deliver comprehensive enhancements in work processes;

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to conceptualise issues holistically;

  • Well-developed organization and prioritization skills in order to handle multiple tasks (prioritizing daily work with various project work and demands of client base) within an extremely dynamic environment;

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills to develop and maintain productive working relationships on very complex issues with the staff and management of Front Office, Risk Management, Technology, and Finance;

  • Ability to deal successfully with a multitude of stakeholders and balance competing viewpoints;

  • Advanced excel skill preferred;

  • Strong PowerPoint, Word and Visio skills;

  • Financial Product knowledge would be useful; and
