Full Job Description

As a Bid Writer, you'll provide professional and high-quality bid writing support for our Citizen Services Business Unit. Working closely with the rest of the bidding team - and thoroughly understanding the proposed solutions - you'll produce quality bids that meet the client's brief whilst being visually engaging and compelling. This will include the production of written responses, storyboards, and other bidding collateral.

As well as the satisfaction of working on (and of course winning) contracts that directly impact public service users, you'll also benefit from an environment that firmly sets the stage for your own career development and progression, whether you want to specialise in Bid Writing, progress into Bid Management or Business Development, or broaden your career into an Operations or Solutions role. We offer a wide portfolio of career frameworks, with the right training and development in place to support your aspirations.

Your main responsibilities:

  • Support the bid team in the creation and use of storyboards.

  • Work closely with Subject Matter Experts to develop comprehensive, compelling responses.

  • Produce high-quality, persuasive bid content that clearly articulates our value proposition.

  • Ensure all bid responses meet customer requirements.

  • When required, to conduct additional research to supplement bid responses including collation and presentation of relevant data.

  • Incorporate win themes, USPs, sales messages, case studies and 'hot button' material into responses.

  • Support the continuous improvement of the bid process

Experience in a similar role would be an advantage, however we are open to applications who are looking to develop their career in a bidding environment.

  • Ideally you will have experience of a complex and varied bidding environment in the public sector.

  • Alternatively, relevant experience in an operational role within Citizen Services would be advantageous, such as contact centres or employment skills.

  • Ability to manage workload, creating deliverables to strict deadlines with a strong sense of ownership

  • Highly competent in MS Office software, especially MS Word. Skills around template creation and document manipulation would be advantageous.

  • Excellent communication skills including relationship development and stakeholder management; individuals will be confident and articulate in all communications.

  • Strong written English skills with high attention to detail.

  • Adaptable and willing to learn.

  • If you are certified with APMP that would be beneficial, however Serco will fund this certification for those who are looking to develop in this area.
