Full Job Description

This is an excellent opportunity for a suitably qualified Biomedical Scientist to gain experience in a busy UKAS accredited and IBMS registered training laboratory., Working hours are 37.5 per week, which includes participation in a weekend rota and an extended working day rota.

You will be required to participate in the weekend and evening rota., Duties will include all aspects of diagnostic bacteriology, parasitology, mycology, serology and molecular virology.

Candidates should have as a minimum, current HCPC registration and previous experience of working in an NHS Microbiology laboratory. It would be desirable to have completed IBMS registration portfolio but consideration will be given to candidates who are nearing completion of this. There will be the opportunity to work in all sections of the department and will receive full training and support relevant to their level of experience.

The microbiology laboratory is well-equipped, fully computerised, holds UKAS accreditation and is approved for training. We currently offer diagnostic microbiology to University Hospital Dorset and other healthcare providers from two laboratories based at The Royal Bournemouth Hospital and Poole Hospital.

The configuration of the Microbiology service across Dorset is currently under review with a vision to provide a Dorset wide service supported by laboratories based in a new pathology hub laboratory at The Royal Bournemouth Hospital and at Dorset County Hospital.
