Full Job Description

Our Charity Retail Managers are responsible for the day to day running of our shops and managing all paid and volunteer staff; motivating the shop team with their passion and leadership skills. Our managers are self-motivated, customer-focused and able to follow tasks as well as use their initiative. Our shop days are fast-paced and varied so you will never find yourself with nothing to do.

This position is for 32 hours (4 days) per week, including alternate Saturdays, and holiday cover as required.

You will be able to draw the best from people to achieve great results and be motivated by the knowledge you are making a real difference to the success of Mercy in Action. You will be creative, proactive and brimming with ideas to make the most of the shop, with great customer service and the tools to make the shop a place that people want to keep coming back to.

Key Responsibilities:

SALES

- Ensure sales targets are achieved and costs are controlled
- Responsible for maximising sales and Gift Aid within the shop
- Implement local and national sales promotions
- Ensure a high standard of customer service

STOCK MANAGEMENT
- Control pricing in line with company policy
- Manage the sale of new goods in line with company guidelines
- Manage stock room systems to ensure quality control, stock density and rotation
- Apply company display, merchandising and window dressing standards

LINE MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES
- Recruit sufficient number of volunteers to ensure adequate shop support at all times
- Responsible for organising sick and holiday cover
- Manage & delegate work to staff & volunteers, ensuring satisfactory performance
- Assist in the training of staff & volunteers
- Develop the shop team through effective leadership, communication & supervision
- Conduct staff performance reviews
- Attend training & team meetings

OPERATIONS
- Take responsibility for managing the shop
- Read and comply with contents of Retail Handbook and all updates
- Responsible for promoting excellent H&S culture throughout shop teams in accordance with MiA's Health and Safety Policy & Procedures at all times.
- Security - act as key holder; ensure security of cash, stock, staff & premises, adhering to company cash handling procedure
- Process all shop administration efficiently as required

GENERAL
- Communicate any issues affecting the running of the shop to the Area Manager
- Carry out responsibilities in line with the charity's Equal Opportunities policy
- Keep up to date with the ongoing work of Mercy in Action

- Provide cover for other shops as required
- Assist the Area Manager with initiatives in the local area & further afield as required
- Carry out additional duties as required
- Fully participate in appraisal, supervision and team meetings as required by the Area Manager
- The post holder will be expected to undertake moderate bending, stretching and lifting in the course of their duties.
