Full Job Description

Situated in the conservation area of Norton, Sheffield we are a forward-thinking, not-for-profit, private members club serving the local community. Established in 1945 the Club caters to all groups within the local area. The Club has a varied social calendar with events and activities to suit all ages and interests.

Our excellent facilities complimented by our well-maintained grounds make us an ideal venue to host your special occasion or event. We provide quality, value-for-money hospitality, and catering for Weddings, Christenings, Wakes, Birthday Celebrations, or Private Functions. Our main function room and bar provide seated accommodation for up to 100 guests complemented by our recently refurbished Chantrey Bar which offers a more informal setting for catching up with friends whilst taking advantage of our well-stocked bar.

We hold regular social events including family fun nights, tribute acts, race nights, and bistro nights. In addition, we host weekly dance nights, bingo, and quizzes and have a dedicated snooker room that hosts two full-size snooker tables.

As the Steward/Bar Manager, you will play a key role in the daily operation of our club. You will be responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the bar, maintaining a safe and welcoming environment, and managing a small team of staff. Your attention to detail, leadership skills, and commitment to providing exceptional customer service are essential for this role., General:
- A personal license is essential for the job. You must either currently hold a personal license or be willing to hold one.
- Open and close the club during agreed trading hours.
- Coordinate with cleaning staff and assign cleaning duties, as well as manage deliveries.
- Ensure the bar area and club premises (excluding the kitchen) meet Health & Safety requirements and report any issues.
- Manage day-to-day operations, including staff supervision, general controls, and security.
- Foster excellent working relationships with the committee, event organizers, and catering staff.
- Operate within the rules and guidelines of the club.
- Maintain the quality and hygiene of all saleable commodities in accordance with relevant regulations and licensing rules.
- Ensure the upkeep of facilities like snooker tables, pool tables, darts, and other amenities.
- Handle customer complaints and inquiries related to function bookings.

Staff:
- Create and manage bar staff rotas to ensure adequate coverage.
- Recruit and train new bar staff or cleaners as needed, ensuring they are well-informed about club standards.
- Develop and manage cleaning staff rotas and duties, ensuring tasks are performed to standard.

Cellar and Stock Management:
- Efficiently manage stock and place orders as necessary.
- Maintain the beer cellar and facilities, ensuring proper cleaning and recording of cleaning schedules.
- Arrange and handle deliveries and maintain stock levels.

Finances:
- Conduct end-of-day cash reconciliations.
- Ensure the agreed float is in the till at the beginning of each shift.

Proven experience as a Bar Supervisor or similar role.
- Knowledge of bar operations, stock management, and financial procedures.
- Familiarity with Health & Safety regulations, hygiene standards, and licensing requirements.
- Ability to handle customer inquiries and complaints with professionalism.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

  • - Hours can be flexible between 20 to 40 hours per week including weekdays and weekends. This will vary due to event bookings
    - Up to £13 per hour - We are willing to negotiate hourly rates depending experience, qualifications and skills
    - Live in accommodation: The club has a spacious 2 bed flat with separate kitchen, living area and bathroom. Energy bills are included subject to reasonable use. Free on site parking.
    - Performance bonus based on profits.
    - 3% pension contribution.
    - Up to 28 days paid leave.
