Full Job Description

Your role: This role will manage the News UK crisis and operational resilience programmes, partnering with the Global Security Operations Centre (a shared News Corp 24/7 capability based in Los Angeles) and Global Technology teams.

The Crisis and Operational Resilience Manager will work with a range of colleagues from all parts of the business to identify and mitigate risks to our operations, services and products, and to develop and maintain the organisation's resilience capabilities.

Day to day you will:

Crisis Management

  • Incident Response lead in executing activities related to the Crisis Management and Operational Resilience programmes, which includes organising workshops, developing scenario playbooks, planning and conducting exercises, maintaining documents, and generating reports.

  • Coordinate and lead incident calls and meetings, create situation reports, and compile reports on actions taken, responsible parties, and lessons learned.

  • Partner with business functions to maintain or develop response plans in the event of severe but plausible operational disruptions, including technology and cyber security crisis readiness plans.

  • Identify emerging internal and external threats to News UK, researching these to understand their potential impact, and working with the business to develop mitigation plans and to guide our incident management teams at both operational and strategic (executive) levels.

  • Maintain the emergency communications systems and associated technology platforms ensuring key contacts and staff are appropriately covered by this system. Conduct regular testing to validate the effectiveness of this system.

  • Engage with editorial leadership to assess and respond to digital threats to editorial staff.


  • Operational Resilience
  • Be part of designing, delivering, and embedding the operational resilience framework and strategy across News UK.

  • Help develop operational resilience policy and standards as well as governance arrangements for operational resilience, working where necessary with Risk and Compliance to ensure that the development of these and the associated operational resilience framework meets compliance and business expectations.

  • Work closely with Technology and Cyber Security teams to support the development and implementation of resilience strategies for our critical services and products, identify gaps, set recovery time objectives and capture business requirements.

  • Support the development and maintenance of key programme documentation including the reporting and supporting material for Boards, Exec, Risk committees and other governance groups.

  • Promote awareness of the News UK operational resilience and crisis management standards, plans and processes. Provide advice and guidance to ensure adherence to policies, minimum standards and industry good practices.


  • As necessary, represent the company in engagement with regulators, customers, suppliers, and industry bodies.

    5+ years of relevant experience in operational resilience / business continuity / technology risk / incident management / cyber security / operational or third-party risk management / supplier oversight.

  • Experience and expertise in resilience exercising and testing.

  • Experience of developing and implementing standards and policies.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and presentation skills.

  • Works well in a matrix team environment, with a flexible and collaborative approach.

  • Strong analytical and data visualisation skills.

  • Strong technical knowledge of Google Workspaces or equivalent productivity software (Microsoft Office).

  • MBCI/CBCP or other resilience accreditation is a plus.

  • Experience using Fusion Risk Management and Tableau or similar is a plus.

  • Availability during off-hours for emergencies or incidents may be required.
