Cornish Lithium are seeking an enthusiastic and collaborative E&I (Electrical & Instrumentation) Engineer. This position will be based at the Geothermal Waters Plant, United Road, Redruth.

Job Summary

As part of a skilled multidisciplinary engineering team, the successful candidate will be primarily responsible for managing electrical and instrumentation design; during the engineering, fabrication, construction, hook-up and commissioning phases for all geothermal project(s).

As the E&I (Electrical & Instrumentation) Engineer your responsibilities will include:

  • Responsible for ensuring that E&I aspects of the plant(s) are designed and installed so that they can be maintained and operated effectively, economically and safely.

  • Responsible for ensuring that plant modifications have HSE designed in, are thoroughly risk assessed for E&I, with project and safety actions closed-out, prior to operations commencing.

  • Interfaces with third party engineering contractor(s) regarding E&I, effectively and constructively

  • Develops and designs E&I systems - explains to third parties these requirements by specifying controls philosophy for HMI, SCADA and DCS.

  • Retrieves information, reviews and ensures completion of E&I drawings, layouts and specs. Ensures availability of as-built safety/production critical E&I documentation within the company.

  • Supports company's multidisciplinary team on E&I matters across project(s) and operations

  • Develops best practice standards / working procedures (particularly isolation requirements) to support E&I activities and operations.

  • Reviews third party engineering against standards and for regulatory compliance

  • Witnesses E&I panel manufacturing, testing, commissioning work, and assists in commissioning / start-up of systems.

  • Prepares punch lists and ensures that contractors rectify issues before final commissioning and acceptance.

  • Ensures any E&I changes to plant follows a formal Management of Change procedure, that documentation is updated and risk assessments are carried out

  • Responsible for negotiating, setting up and managing contracts with relevant E&I suppliers to the project/operations


  • We would welcome applicants with the following attributes:
  • Indentured Apprenticeship in Electrical Engineering

    5 years experience in chemical, water treatment, or mining industries, or similar

  • In depth knowledge of UK regulations regarding electrical systems

  • Hands on experience with industrial electrical and automation systems, including commissioning and trouble-shooting of E&I equipment

  • Understanding of electrical power distribution and protection for high, medium and low voltages (switchgear, transformers, motor control centers, lighting, automation cabinets, etc)

  • Excellent numerical capabilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Proactive self-starter with the ability to work on own initiative


  • Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of project management techniques and CDM requirements regarding E&I

  • Experience of continuously operated plant

  • Basic understanding of automation (plc) applications

  • Pro-active and self-motivated team player with strong engineering skills

  • Able to work well in a high pressure environment with continuous changes

  • Creativity and strong analytical skills to solve complex technical challenges
