Full Job Description

As an Electrical & Mechanical Engineer - Substations, you will be required to live within a 1-hour commute of our Barking substation as you will join our London East team covering 5 substations spanning Barking, West Ham, Warley, West Thurrock and Stratford. You'll start your journey gaining site experience and completing your core training, progressing with further classroom based and on-site training meaning the occasional short time away from home. Upon the completion of your training period, you'll be required to support the standby rota and emergency call out requirements across your allocated team and there is optional travel to operationally support the wider zones via mobility ways of working. The Electrical & Mechanical Engineer - Substations will lead and deliver high voltage electricity substation capital projects and maintenance and fault investigation/rectification in a commercially focused way whilst supervising team members. You'll ensure safe systems of work are
implemented and followed, share your expertise and ensure completion of maintenance, refurbishment or replacement works on a variety of plant and equipment including circuit breakers, transformers and protection systems. Once you have the necessary safety authorisations in place, you'll progress to becoming an SAP (Senior Authorised Person). Key Responsibilities: - Support the Operations Manager and other team members whilst undertaking a project - Manage project delivery performance - Undertake standby and emergency call out duties as required as part of an agreed rota - Enact the Project Leader (PL) role enabling successful delivery and ensuring a commercial focus - Ensure staff work correctly including risk assessments, method statements and toolbox talks - Monitor, review and progress contracts for unlicensed customers - Monitor, review and progress work undertaken by contractors - Undertake site delivery activities of projects as defined in CDM Regs - Act as Temporary Works
Co-ordinator and Principle Contractor (Site Manager) - Undertake roles as defined in National Grid's Safety Rules - Proactively communicate with the Project Leader/Line Manager enabling on track work programme - Undertake plant/equipment duties to a defined standard - Conduct maintenance, site delivery, fault investigation/repair and safety implementation/monitoring - Supervise internal/external staff ensuring efficiency, cost effectiveness and safety - Assist with commissioning activities during the work

A full driving licence that permits you to drive in the UK - Engineering level 3 qualification or an equivalent recognised apprenticeship - Significant electrical or mechanical engineering experience gained from an industrial environment - Experience of working under safety rules - Experience of fault finding

- NEBOSH general certificate - Experience of substation plant, HV cable systems or Protection & Control - Experience of responding to emergency situations - Project delivery experience - Commissioning experience
