Full Job Description

As an Electrical Systems Engineer within our Helicopter Division in Yeovil, you will be working across a broad range of electrical systems, supporting our products through their life cycle.

You will have the unique opportunity to work in the only place in UK where you can start with the customer requirements and work through sourcing the equipment to meet these requirements, onto integration into the platform through rig testing, aircraft testing and certification.

What you will do as an Electrical Systems Engineer:

  • Design of innovative high voltage electrical system focused on Hybrid Technology

  • Design of Network/Load switching and protection concepts up to 1kVDC

  • Design of Battery Management System (BMS) design and testing

  • Design of Power Electronics and Inverter design and testing

  • Contribute to the integration of systems into an aircraft level system environment

  • Responsible for network and component modelling and simulation, focusing on electric, thermal and transient behaviours

  • Cooperation with battery thermal management engineers and avionics engineers regarding design, interfaces and control

  • Close cooperation with mechanical engineers for design and integration of electrical system components

  • Specification and support of system validation and verification according to acceptable means of compliance

  • Design/integration and certification of aircraft lighting & airframe systems

  • Participate in aircraft level system testing & trials

  • Responsible for specification of system, subsystem, and component requirements

  • Qualification and certification of equipment and systems

    Degree/Apprenticeship and or relevant experience in Electrical or Avionic System Engineering

  • Knowledge and experience in areas of electrical systems, eg electrical machines, generators, inverter, converter, electrical storage and lighting design


  • It would be great if you have any of the following:

  • Experience of Electric Motor Drivers and Drive Technique, Aerospace (preferred) or Automotive

  • Skills in electrical network modelling and Simulation tools software (Matlab, Simulink, Amesim)

  • Experience of aerospace engineering and operations

  • Knowledge of SC-VTOL or equivalent Urban Air Mobility standards

  • Knowledge of assembling and interpreting Electrical Load Analysis for 28Vdc and 115Vac systems

  • Knowledge of Aerospace Electro Magnetic Compatibility (EMC)

  • Knowledge of Firmware design and certification aspects

  • Ability to review and approve Schematic and Wiring Diagrams

  • Experience of avionic data protocols (ARINC 429, CAN BUS, AFDX)

  • Experience of integration, qualification and certification of Electrical Power systems

  • Experience of aerospace standards, e.g.MIL-STD-704, RTCA/DO-160G, RTCA/DO-178C, RTCA/DO-254, RTCA/DO-311A

  • Experience of the challenges associated with unmanned systems

  • Knowledge of systems engineering tools for requirements management and system modelling, e.g. IBM Rational DOORS, You must be eligible for full security clearance.
