Full Job Description

  • Leadership of the electronic systems workpackage as part of a multifunctional integrated product team (IPT). Responsible for team task and activity management, progress update, problem resolution, status reporting and escalation management

  • Work along side systems' mechanical and integration lead to ensure proper integration of electronic/electric components into system.

  • Oversight of the detailed design, build, test and analysis of electronic circuits for new products, with full regard to available technology, in-service reliability, cost and schedule.

  • Application of Common Circuit Blocks (CCBs) to new products, in line with Collins Actuation Systems Electronics Strategy.

  • Technology readiness development planning and risk management

  • Compile and deliver effective communication of electronics strategy, plans and status including presentations, both written and verbal to internal and external customers.

  • Working alongside the electronics chief engineer and electronics team (based in India) own the delivery of:-


  • Architectural design of electronic products.

  • Identification of new emerging technologies and advocate in system designs to enable product differentiation

  • Generation of electronics design definition documentation to describe the design solution and the rationale behind it.

  • Generating test plans to support system integration and verification.

  • Conceptual design of electronics solutions for next generation platforms, bids and proposals.

  • Direction and performing of electronics fault investigations to component level, in a timely manner.

  • Selection and justification of suitable alternative components to allow obsolete component replacement via the Collins Change Management process.

  • Supporting test equipment specification, procurement and validation.

  • Reviewing and assessing electronics data from suppliers, e.g., proposals and test reports.

  • Generate electronics sub-system specifications.

  • Generate high quality engineering reports.


  • Collaboration with engineering teams at other Collins locations.

  • Contribute to the development of Standard Work in electronics and the sharing of best practice within the Collins team.

    We are looking for a Electronics Systems Lead to join the Aerostructures Electric TRAS (Thrust Reverser Actuation Systems) Value Stream in Wolverhampton. In this position you will be responsible for the definition and delivery of Electronic Systems workpackages for Electric TRAS within the integrated project team. You will have demonstrated experience in the design, development and certification of aircraft electronic systems and experienced in the application of electronic system skills within a multi-functional engineering team., Experience with Hardware, Software and Firmware design and certification including knowledge and experience in designing hardware and software solutions to meet DO-254 and DO-178.

  • Degree in Electronic Engineering or related discipline or demonstrable experience

  • Excellent communication skills & the ability to undertake tasks with minimum supervision

  • Creative and innovative thinking. Able to identify new and novel approaches to electronics design that could differentiate Collins electro-mechanical actuation system solution., Experience in aerospace or a similar safety critical industry would be an advantage.

  • Knowledge of electronic component supply chain and certification standards is desirable.

  • Familiarity with industry best practices, processes and procedures for the development and certification of electronics equipment for an aerospace application. Included knowledge of ARP4754B, ARP5754, DO-254 and DO-178.

  • Strong Electronic Engineering hardware design skills, with ability in complex analysis.

  • Familiarity with electronic control of brushless DC motors is desirable.

  • Familiarity with Power electronics/power supply design.

  • Problem Solving ability.

  • Self-motivated, with a proactive approach and a passion for team spirit.

  • Time management skills.

  • Multi-tasking ability.
