Caterpillar's Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L Cat® and Perkins engines that power over 5000 applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. The Opportunity:

An opportunity is available within our Global Engine Development team (GED) at the Peterborough Engine Facility. GED is instrumental in the development, validation, and certification of our new products and in providing support to current products.

In this role you will assist engineers in conducting technical investigations of current and future product, components, materials and processes both in the laboratory and field environments.

The Technician role within Operations is building technical knowledge and experience of Operations. An essential role focussed on executing engine testing to customer requirements.

Additional Info :

  • 85% test bed operations, 15% training/development and improvement activities.

  • Applicants must be self-motivated, with good teamworking skills and be willing to work shifts.


  • What You Will Do:
  • Adhere to the Organisation's health and safety policy and safe working practices in accordance with the Safety Management System.

  • Follow documented standard work procedures/instructions to perform safe and defect free installations of engines into test cells along with the connection of test measurement and associated equipment and services that allow for high quality data collection.

  • Liaise and communicate with engineers responsible for engine test programs.

  • Diagnose and fix a range of faults on both engines and test cell equipment.

  • Keep the work area clean, tidy, and safe in line with 5S and total preventative maintenance (TPM).

  • Support value stream improvements projects.

  • Undertake training and further learning as required.

  • Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Level Basic Understanding:
  • Describes problem identification, reporting and escalation procedures.


  • Desirable experience/skills:
  • Good engine and mechanical diagnostic/problem solving skills.

  • Previous experience in motor vehicle maintenance or engine testing.

  • Applicants will ideally have an engineering or motor mechanics apprenticeship and some relevant work experience and have completed some form of relevant higher education.
