Full Job Description

As the Engineering Manager for Articulated Trucks (ATK) Performance, Controls, Automation and Autonomy (PCAA) team, you will not only provide supervision and technical direction for 4~5 people, but also conduct technical activities yourself. You will be responsible for providing technical and program leadership for innovative technology deployment, machine performance improvement and controls features development for the Articulated Trucks product line. Your will work closely with commercial, product team and project management team to develop performance requirements & goals and help frame the technology MGPP to deliver best in class product features, maximize machine productivity & efficiency, and deliver optimized customer values. As the team supervisor you will manage your team performance, goals, reviews, and empower your team to champion Virtual Product Development (VPD) for performance simulation, conduct controls feature development & machine controls tuning. You are also
expected to lead by example when you can perform these same activities as well., Specifically, as the Engineering Manager for Performance and Controls team, you can expect to:

  • Provide strategic, technical leadership, and project management for ATK PCAA team

  • Supervise a team of 5 PCAA engineers, manage team resource and daily work, schedule, priorities, and budget

  • Develop ATK technology Multi Generation Product Plan and lead technical requirements/specifications and validation plan

  • Assume ATK machine performance ownership, champion VPD and use of performance simulations

  • Facilitate close collaboration among PCAA, Product Group, Cat Electronics, and other engineering teams to drive for efficient execution and fast deliverables and achieve aggressive timeline goal

  • Lead and conduct ATK NPI and current products machine software check-out, testing, tuning, and validation

  • Lead and manage factory software flashing calibration process to support operational excellence

  • Be able to work in office or proving ground minimum 4 days a week.   • also expected to lead by example when you can perform these same activities as well.

  • BS (or equivalent) in an accredited Engineering curriculum

  • Experience in off highway machine simulation, controls development, and testing validation

  • Familiar with machine performance simulation tools and physics-based simulation tools

  • Familiar with machine embedded software, electronics, and controls applications

  • Off highway hauling products application knowledge

  • Passion for innovative technology and commitment to performance simulations

  • A strong collaborator with multiple electronic system teams and an initiative-taker who has demonstrated excellent organizational skills

  • Project and people leadership experience and skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Experience working with UK system teams, MS (or equivalent) in an accredited Engineering curriculum

  • Experience in machine validation at a test site / Proving Ground

  • Ability to work effectively with international, multi-functional, decentralized teams and be able to identify long and short-term strategies and build consensus within the team to promote these strategies

  • Previous in experience in the development of software / controls algorithms

  • Familiar with Caterpillar product development tools and processes such as ET, PSPS, Dynasty, DATK, MATLAB, CANape, RPAC

  • Familiar with Caterpillar machine and electronic development systems and teams

  • Previous experience in using Dynasty, MATLAB, Simulink, and other Caterpillar analytical and development tools mentioned above

  • Experience in dealing with Dealers and Customers

  • Previous experience and knowledge of machine hydraulic, cooling, powertrain, and controls systems

  • 6 Sigma Black Belt and prior Supervisory experience
