Family Hub / Start for Life Perinatal Mental Health Peer Support Worker

20 hours per week (part time)

Salary range (£11,908 - £12,948)

Fixed term to 31 March 2025, but could be extended subject to further funding

Are you a parent? Do you understand the emotional and mental health challenges during pregnancy or after the birth of a baby? Have you personally experienced mental health and emotional challenges? Do you want to use your experience to help others? Are you able to connect with people and quickly establish rapport?

If this is you, Light Peer Support has an exciting opportunity to be part of the government's national Family Hub/Start for Life programme, supporting families and children at the start of their lives. You'll be at the forefront of the Family Hub/Start for Life transformation programme. You will co-ordinate the delivery of locality based perinatal mental health (PNMH) peer support services, to support the transition to parenthood when parents face emotional and/or mental health difficulties.

Light is a perinatal mental health peer support charity, set up in 2010, which has grown to support parents and their families across South Yorkshire. We're led by our passion to support mental health during pregnancy and beyond for all families from all communities. From our hub in Sheffield, we work with families who are experiencing emotional and mental health difficulties in the perinatal period. Working in partnership across the statutory and voluntary sector to raise awareness of perinatal mental health difficulties and the support available.

Perinatal Mental Health (PNMH) Peer Support Worker role We're delighted that Sheffield City Council, as part of the national Family Hub and Start for Life Programme, commissioned Light to provide a perinatal mental health peer support intervention. We will be able to support more people who are affected by emotional and mental health problems during pregnancy and the postnatal period, and/or are facing parent - infant relationship difficulties. Integrated services will be delivered in Family Centre Hubs, ensuring that perinatal mental health peer support is available locally right across the city of Sheffield.
