Full Job Description

The Ri recently launched a new 5-year strategy and we are planning for growth over the next few years. We are looking for someone with excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate complex financial information to non-finance professionals in a meaningful way.

This is a new critical part-time role working in close partnership with the Head of Finance to collaborate with budget holders and management ensuring they receive the financial information and support to allocate resources optimally to fulfil the strategy.

As the successful applicant, you will support the production of financial and management reporting, cash-flow, quarterly forecasts and financial commentaries and ensure all budget holders are trained and supported to have a clear understanding of their area of financial responsibility and equipped to make good finance decisions.

You will also ensure endowment and restricted funds are monitored, reported and used appropriately and work closely with the fundraising team to help prepare funding proposals and ensure requirements and risks are understood.

Either accountancy qualified or working towards becoming qualified, your experience working in a Finance department will have provided you with:

  • Experience of databases such as financial ledgers or CRM software.

  • Thorough knowledge of financial procedures, principles and controls.

  • Experience in working on month end reporting, including reconciliations.

  • Experience of coordinating a budgeting process across the organisation.

  • Thorough knowledge and interest in finance and reporting systems and advanced Excel skills

  • Experience of delivering training/coaching on financial management and making complex financial information accessible to all

  • Some experience of working in the charity sector, education or not for profit would be advantageous but science knowledge or qualification is not necessary.

The Ri has been connecting people with science for over 200 years and has a clear vision that 'Science is for Everyone'. Through our packed event programme, our UK schools outreach and social impact initiatives, and our global digital reach including almost 1.5m YouTube subscribers we achieve our mission by connecting people with scientists to explore science together.

In our historic Grade I listed building in Mayfair, discoveries were made that literally changed the world. Today it is a busy, multi-purpose building which acts as base for the Ri team (approx. 60) and tenants (approx. 100) and our science communication activities as well as a vibrant event space for private and corporate events.

Salary: £42k to 52k per annum pro-rata depending on experience and qualifications (actual salary £25,200 to £31,200) with potential for contribution to study costs.
