Full Job Description
The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) works to improve child health in the UK and internationally. 'RCPCH Global' is a unit within RCPCH which designs and manages a range of international projects and programmes to improve neonatal, child and adolescent health, primarily in sub-Saharan Africa, Asia and the Middle East. Our programmes use teams of skilled clinicians and other health professionals to work with counterparts in targeted low-income countries to train and mentor doctors, nurses and other health workers, as a means of helping to build the capacity and quality of the health systems in those countries., This post would be based at the London office, to manage our health system strengthening programmes in Nepal and Myanmar. This may include some travel to country/ies under programme management. The anticipated start date is July 2024., Management of international projects/programmes in Nigeria
- Managing all aspects of the current programmes in Nepal and Myanmar.
- Overseeing implementation of programme(s), including delivery of high-quality programme activities within agreed timeframe.
- Overseeing programme expenditures, monitoring all spending in compliance with agreed budget(s) as well as monitoring variance in spending lines.
- Leading on programme reporting to donor(s) as well as wider donor liaison.
- Leading on liaison with local programme counterparts and stakeholders in the field, including through regular field visits.
- Leading on recruitment and management of short-term advisory consultants, as necessary and required.
- Maintaining and ensure high-quality programme monitoring and evaluation processes.
- Being point of contact for stakeholder management of RCPCH international programme partnerships and relationships with counterpart institutions as relevant e.g. the Nepal Paediatric Society, the Karenni Nurses Association, as well as other international and local partner NGOs, and academic institutions.
- Represent the College's global health activities as requested and relevant.
- Manage financial and budgetary aspects of relevant programmes within RCPCH financial systems and in compliance with donor requirements.
- Liaising with RCPCH Finance and Governance departments to ensure compliance of programme activities and expenditure with RCPCH policies.
- Liaising with RCPCH Finance and with key overseas partners to ensure timely invoicing and financial transfers within budget stipulations.
- Ensure effective working relationships with key stakeholders to manage programmatic developments.
- Lead on development of existing donor and potential new donor relations, as well as extension/development of grant-funded programmes in South/Southeast Asia.
- Contribute to development of overall RCPCH Global strategy.
- Liaise with College members on new project opportunities.
- Promote RCPCH Global activities including presentations to external stakeholders.
- Lead on the contribution of material to the international section of the RCPCH website, e-bulletins and publications.

Excellent project/programme management skills and experience and successful track record in a relevant international/ development management or implementation role
Demonstrable experience designing initiating and leading complex programme development processes, including with senior government counterparts, local partner organisations, and international and multilateral donor agencies
Significant experience of budget management and financial reporting, including to bilateral and multilateral donors
Ability to prioritise competing demands and meeting deadlines
Experience managing donor-funded projects/programmes and donor reporting, including with specific emphasis on UNICEF
Experience in monitoring and evaluation processes and in analysis of quantitative and qualitative data for wider dissemination/ publication
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. The ability to set out and discuss complex issues clearly for a wide audience and to give presentations as required in a fluent and persuasive manner to people at all levels externally and across the College
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills demonstrating the ability to understand and discuss complex issues around international development and/or health
Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to correspond with a variety of different stakeholders, including charity partners, international NGOs and government officials
Self-motivation and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Experience and working knowledge of Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint and of database applications

Previous experience of successfully managing large complex programmes, including supporting field-programme teams both remotely and in the field, within the international development and/or health sectors
Experience of dealing with a variety of international project/programme stakeholders, including government counterparts, NGOs, UN partners, donors etc.

Experience of working in developing countries, specifically in South/Southeast Asia, including Nepal and Myanmar
Other
Ability to travel within and outside of the UK as required, Suitable qualification at undergraduate or masters level in international development, public health, international & global health, health systems strengthening & child health, or equivalent work experience
The College has over 20,000 members and fellows and employs over 150 staff. The office is situated close to Chancery Lane and Holborn underground stations.
The College is expanding and developing the involvement of children in its work. For some roles this may in future mean direct contact with young people. The College therefore may in the future require a Disclosure Barring Service check to be undertaken.
The role-holder will be required to travel both inside and outside of London and the UK, with overnight stays needed as appropriate. In addition, it may sometimes be necessary to work outside of the core College hours of 9am to 5pm.
