Full Job Description

Opportunity for a Graduate/Assistant Transport Planner, including those with up to one year's experience, to join our growing team in Woking, GU22 8AR.

What You Can Expect

  • Throughout your employment, you will be given the support you need to meet key performance indicators set out in our Graduate Training Programme, providing you with a solid foundation for your career in transport planning, as well as promoting personal and professional growth

  • Throughout the programme, you will be assigned a Transport Planning Society (TPS) mentor who will assist you in navigating the fundamental aspects of Transport Planning and progressing to TPP PDS accreditation

  • As a graduate, you will receive quarterly appraisals during your first year, aiming to optimise your experience and learning. These appraisals facilitate regular communication with your mentor. Additionally, you'll have the chance to address any concerns or express interest in specific areas of the business during these sessions

  • In order to appreciate the wider offering from Mayer Brown, you will have the opportunity to work with and support our Environmental teams, assisting with Construction and Environmental Management Plans & Noise and Vibration Assessments which will include appropriate training to visit sites to deploy equipment and monitor construction works

  • What your role will be (with the guidance and support of colleagues):
  • Prepare technical reports, including Access Appraisals, Transport Statements, Transport Assessments, Travel Plans and Walking, Cycling, Horse-Riding Assessment and Reviews

  • Carry out junction capacity modelling and CAD design work

  • Liaise with stakeholders, external project team members and clients

  • Represent the company at meetings, public consultations and exhibitions

  • Undertake site visits

  • Working collaboratively, supporting our Environmental teams with the production of Construction and Environmental Management Plans and Noise and Vibration Assessments, including assisting with monitoring sites, Transport planning plays a crucial role in shaping the future landscape of our towns and cities, ensuring seamless connectivity between people and destinations. This entails promoting sustainable modes of transportation to reduce reliance on cars whenever feasible. Engaging in the planning process and beyond, we facilitate communication of intricate issues to the public, developers, and policymakers, fostering an environment conducive to sustainable development.

    A degree in a relevant subject would be preferred, but not compulsory (including and not limited to Geography, Civil Engineering, Mathematics, Planning, Transport Planning)

  • Excellent numeracy skills

  • Proficiency in conducting research and producing high quality reports

  • A desire to learn and develop a career in the Transport Planning industry

  • Good communications skills
