Full Job Description

A rare opportunity has arisen for a newly graduated veterinary surgeon to join our wonderful team at Mansfield Vets4Pets. We pride ourselves on our patient and client care and have a loyal client base. Part of the Pets at Home Vet Group, our practice is owned and led by three Joint Venture Partners: veterinary surgeon, Richard, who has been here since the practice opened and has 30 years' experience, and veterinary nurses, Lisa and Rebecca, who have worked at the practice for 17 years and have been JVP's for 4 years. We have an excellent colleague retention record, with the majority of our team having worked here for at least six years and several who have been here over ten years. Two of our vets, Chloe and Holly, actually started their careers here as kennel assistants and we have had the privilege of watching them develop into the fabulous vets they are today!

Our people are our strongest asset and are what make our practice a fantastic place to work. You would be supported by our nursing team of eight RVNs and dedicated VCA as well as our practice manager, practice administrator and reception team. Our seven vet team has a range of experience and skill sets and are very supportive of each other. Two of our vets are VetGDP advisors, who are ready and willing to support newly registered vets and we provide placements to vet students on EMS. We are also a student nurse training practice with two clinical coaches to accommodate student nurse placements. Many of our nurses completed their training here and have never left! We pride ourselves on being a family. We have a 'door is always open' approach and are happy if our team members are happy. We socialise outside of work and share many of the same hobbies and interests.

Established in 2003, our practice is a recognised part of the local community. We have many long-standing clients who have entrusted us with the life-long care of their pets. As one of the original Vets4Pets practices, we have the good fortune to be located in a generously sized building giving us the space to provide all the necessary facilities. We have separate kennel, cattery and isolation wards to complement our large treatment/ preparation room and dedicated theatre. We have digital x-ray and ultrasound machines on-site as well as a full suite of Idexx analysers to enable a variety of in-house biochemical/ haematological tests.

We are looking for a motivated individual who is committed to providing high quality veterinary care and our dedicated nursing team and support staff are here to help you deliver it. We have an interesting and varied caseload with scope to accommodate all clinical interests. We offer twenty minute consultations with a ten minute 'catch-up' slot every hour, plus admin time, to ensure you have the time to provide a gold standard service. Ideally the position is full time, based on a forty hour week, four days a week with paid breaks. We are however open to flexibility and would consider part time hours.

Our weekend rota is shared equally between all the vets, with additional days off in the week to compensate. Our out-of-hours cover is provided by Vets Now.

Our award-winning, 2-year programme is designed by vets to give new graduates like you, the best possible start to your practice career.
With our support, and emphasis on your wellbeing, you can realise and maintain your full potential in an environment that encourages a healthy work/life balance too.
You'll be supported from day one by a dedicated Vet GDP Advisor, as well as the graduate and clinical teams, and online by 1,300+ vets within our clinical community.
You'll also be able to take paid leave to attend the tailored CPD events we hold. The high-quality events we deliver as part of the programme usually comprise subjects such as practical dentistry, practical surgery, radiography, dermatology, cardiology, and more.
We are located in the village of Forest Town in the district of Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. The market town of Mansfield is rich in history and is conveniently positioned among the major towns and cities within Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, and South Yorkshire. Mansfield railway station provides regular trains to Nottingham and Worksop, both of which take just over 30 minutes, and the bus network provides transport links to the areas within and around the town. As for getting around in the car, Nottingham is just 14 miles to the south, Sheffield 25 miles to the north. If you're travelling further afield, the M1 motorway is just over 6 miles away ensuring you are well connected to the rest of the Midlands and beyond.

Mansfield and the surrounding area offers plenty of attractions and facilities sure to suit a variety of interests and pursuits such as sports, crafts, exercising and socialising. The historical Sherwood Forest is only a short distance away and there are many beautiful parks and woodlands for walking, cycling and horse riding. Clumber Park, Rufford Abbey, Sherwood Pines and Newstead Abbey are all within easy reach, plus the breath-taking Peak District is less than an hour's drive away.

We strongly encourage the development of all our colleagues and are happy to fund CPD all the way up to certificate level. Previously, we have supported one of our vets with their Ophthalmology Certificate through to them achieving Advanced Practitioner status and currently have another vet studying towards a Certificate in Small Animal Medicine.
