Full Job Description

  • Define the Hardware development cycle in consistency with that of upper/same level elements (dependencies, co-engineering activities).

  • Tailor the Hardware engineering environment (process, practices and tools) according to Company and Project requirements.

  • Allocates responsibilities to individual contributors.

  • Participate in the specification of the functions and interfaces of products to be developed.

  • Participate in the definition of the architecture, and the allocation of functions, to the components for which they have primary responsibility.

  • The Hardware Project Engineer proactively contributes to all elements of the Project/Product/SFR&D activity so that hardware engineering expertise and effort is applied as necessary to secure successful business outcomes. This will typically be in a lead engineering management role for hardware design and development activity and in a support role for all other activity.

  • You will be responsible for agreeing with the Project / Product / SFR&D teams that he/she is allocated to support.

  • Responsible for enabling the development teams to define: How this is to be achieved including the responsible management of the technical risk. This detailed plan is to be captured in the sprint backlog register.

  • You will motivate the team to own the successful delivery of the engineering artefacts ensuring that all activities are logged and tracked in JIRA as part of the eTUP mandated toolset(s).

  • You will ensure that the development team track and manage progress against the identified activities, reporting progress, taking remedial action and escalating issues as appropriate, including Design to Cost etc with clear targets and tracking of achievement against these.

  • You will maximise the use of Agile and Lean Development techniques to ensure timely delivery of the engineering tasks in accordance with company procedures and practices.

  • You will be responsible for defining and collating the required metrics and reports required by both the Project/Product /SFR&D and Engineering Management team in a timely and accurate way.

    BEng(Hons) Electronic or Mechanical Engineering.

  • Evidence of the ability to lead and motivate a team of people to achieve a goal is important.

  • The ability to develop, manage and promote Product engineering solutions.

  • Ability to engage and influence key stakeholders.

  • Knowledge of engineering development "v" cycles.

  • Key influencer and user of Product Life cycle management tools and JIRA.

  • Experience within manufacturing and of manufacturing processes.


  • Desirable
  • Knowledge of the quality management systems, Design, Develop and Qualify the Solution (Hardware) Process Lifecycle, or equivalent ISO9001 compliant engineering management system.

  • Knowledge of Lean & Agile Development techniques.

  • Level 6 Qualification in Leadership & Management.

  • Level 6 Qualification in Coaching & Mentoring.

  • IPMA Level D Qualification or equivalent experience.

  • Experience in Project management in defence or similar industries.
