Full Job Description

As a Head of Operations, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. Leading the teams responsible for maintaining the Red Arrows and RAF fighter pilot training aircraft - directly contributing to the safety, security and international reputation of the UK.

Day-to-day, you'll lead safety engagement, enhancement & accountability, as well as:

  • Manage workforce against agreed resource levels, actively demonstrating visible and transparent leadership to generate effective, consistent, and relevant two-way information flow.

  • Drive exceptional service delivery and contract performance with a common reporting approach across all functions.

  • Ensure coherent maintenance planning/tasking and planning integration with customer led fleet planning, quantifying, and managing variation from agreed resource budgets and service scope.

  • Lead delivery of transformation plans and change projects, developing a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Exceptional leadership, workforce engagement and customer relationship management skills; communicating complex subjects effectively and influencing at all levels.


  • This role is full time and based onsite at RAF Valley

    Essential experience of the Head of Operations
  • Exceptional leadership, workforce engagement and customer relationship management skills; communicating complex subjects effectively and influencing at all levels.

  • Extensive experience of air safety and H&S, role modelling the highest standards of personal behaviours and expectations.

  • Aircraft engineering/maintenance knowledge, preferably on Hawk and/or within the UK military construct.

  • Demonstrable implementation of change and performance improvement within complex environments and contracts - balancing people orientated and data driven approach.
