Velindre University NHS Trust (VUNHST) is going through an exciting period of change and development to support delivery of our vision and strategic objectives. This exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, dynamic, individual to join VUNHST as a Health & safety Technician Band 5.
Velindre University NHS Trust (VUNHST) is looking to appoint a dynamic, proactive and enthusiastic candidate to join our Corporate Team. The Health and Safety Technician will support the Head of Health and Safety to deliver a safe environment for staff patients and visitors.
The role will also involve delivery of risk assessments and audits to identify potential hazards. Support the Trust in meeting and exceeding set targets, reporting and investigating incidents and accidents, and creating initiatives that will improve the safety of staff, patients and other stakeholders., To work closely with and to support the Head of Health and Safety and the wider Health & Safety Team. The post holder is required to assist and support the health and safety team with routine activity.
The post holder is required to implement and support the delivery of Health and Safety training programmes to staff across The Trust ensuring a consistent and high quality delivery and content such as Manual Handling , Violence & Aggression, and other courses/workshops as required to ensure the board meets its statutory obligations.
The post holder will provide professional H&S support to staff within the organisation with all aspects of Health, Safety and Welfare at work, thereby improving working conditions and reducing the Board's exposure to risk created in the workplace.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply., + NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety or similar is essential
+ Knowledge of NHS Health and Safety Policy
+ Ability to produce and analyse effective Risk Assessments
Desirable
+ IOSH (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health) Member at Technical member (Tech IOSH) or have evidence of working towards this.
+ Moving and Handling teaching qualification or be prepared to work towards achieving.
+ Formal minute taking in a health care environment.
+ Knowledge of Health and Safety Law
+ Knowledge of NHS Datix system
+ Knowledge of Manual Handling techniques and processes
+ Knowledge of Violence and Aggression techniques and processes
+ Knowledge of Conflict Management techniques and processes
+ Knowledge of Face Mask Fit Testing procedures and processes.
Knowledge /Experience
Essential criteria
+ Demonstrable and significant experience of undertaking health and safety investigations, risk assessments, inspections and audit
+ Specialist knowledge of health and safety topics and issues in the Healthcare setting
+ Experienced in providing support and facilitation on training courses and workshops
+ Experience in record keeping and database maintenance
+ Experienced in booking facilities for training workshops and communicating with delegates to ensure attendance at the right place and right time.
Desirable criteria
+ significant experience in NHS or equivalent sized organisation
+ Experience in Fit Testing
+ Experienced in supporting and delivering training workshops to large/small groups or individuals.
+ Involvement in Quality Improvement initiatives
+ Writing reports/producing data graphs
+ Project work
+ DSE assessments
