Full Job Description

The Systems Administrator (SA) is responsible for the upkeep, configuration and reliable operation of computer systems, servers and networks. The primary task is to ensure continuous optimal performance of IT services and support systems in a multi-user computing environment.
The SA will protect critical information, systems and assets, be involved in solution design and build, software and hardware implementation and training.
The SA will provide active input to the development of the overall IT strategy.
Accountabilities

  • Proactively manage and maintain servers, networks and firewalls.

  • Administer and support core technologies.

  • Develop and execute implementation plans, risk assessments and contingency plans.

  • Design and implement monitoring, configuration management and reporting functions for a controlled environment.

  • Define and document support practices and procedures.

  • Provide out-of-hours support for Infrastructure related emergencies and maintenance.

  • Maintain inventory and asset configuration documentation.

  • Assist with hardware, firewall, telecom and software vendor evaluation, recommendation and negotiations

  • Mentor / cross train team members on existing and emerging technologies.

  • Perform server administration tasks, including user / group administration, security permissions, group policies, print services, research event log warnings and errors, and resource monitoring, ensuring system architecture components work together seamlessly.

  • Maintain internal infrastructure requirements including, servers, routers, switches, firewalls, and security updates.

  • Support internet, intranet, LANs and WAN.

  • Interact with other IT teams to assist in troubleshooting, identify root cause, and provide technical support when needed.

  • Perform routine/scheduled audits of the systems, including all backups.

  • Carry out special tasks at Management's direction.

  • Interact with customers and staff at the technical level, as required.

  • Support the overall service delivery of the team

    A solid understanding of LAN/WAN networking.

  • Experience of Active Directory/LDAP user and group administration.

  • Proven stakeholder management skills.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to use sound judgement in terms of work planning and customer care.

  • Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.

  • Highly self-motivated and directed.

  • Displays a keen attention to detail.

  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to prioritise and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

  • Strong customer service orientation.


  • Desirable:
  • In depth understanding of all standard Windows networking protocol.

  • Extensive hands-on technical knowledge of network systems, protocols, and standards.

  • Knowledge of anti-virus software, firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and other network security measures.

  • Hardware, software, and network connection troubleshooting experience.

  • Knowledge and experience of VoIP systems and integration an advantage.
