The AXA UK Commercial Financial Lines team are currently looking to Grow our Professional Indemnity book and are excited to bring to market an opportunity to join them as a Professional Indemnity New Business Underwriter. The role will provide the individual a great opportunity to gain exposure of the market and develop key technical skills, whilst under the guidance of a specialist and supportive team.

Our Professional Indemnity Policy (PI) is the insurance purchased by companies and individuals to protect themselves against claims for allegations of errors in the provision of their services. These firms can range from Accountants to Zoologists. The role will involve analysing the exposure, setting terms and selling cover to our Brokers via our open market distribution network.

As a Professional Indemnity New Business Underwriter, you will be dealing with Brokers, providing excellent service and working to demanding targets; along with your natural ability to build relationships and deal comfortably and confidently with people over the phone, face to face and industry events. You will have the opportunity to gain a good understanding of this specialist team, what it does and where it sits within the wider AXA business.

What you'll be doing:

As Commercial PI New Business Underwriter you'll help drive and transform how we partner our broker portfolios, through responsive, flexible, and collaborative relationships. With a strong balance of technical and trading capability, you'll be empowered to make decisions, supported by data, insight, and decision support tools on mobile technology to succeed. You'll be focused on developing and delivering profitable growth, across new business within the key markets.

  • Deliver on trading team targets through profitable underwriting of our Professional Indemnity product for New Business, whilst developing key relationships and credibility with brokers and customers.

  • You'll be proactive, outgoing and confident in dealing with our partner brokers across your region, retaining and maximising business through the delivery of exceptional customer service.

  • Underwrite our Professional Indemnity product for SME customers profitably, accurately, consistently using the full range of appetite and tools available.

  • Be an advocate for AXA contributing to meetings with brokers to secure clients.

  • Monitor the overall performance of the book you're responsible for and ensuring remedial action is taken to correct any performance issues.

  • Developing broker relationships to enhance their knowledge of our products and appetite.

  • Take ownership of a specialism within the Financial Lines trade sectors.

  • Cert CII qualification with DIP CII desirable

  • High level of technical underwriting expertise. You'll possess a strong trading capability, commercial awareness and expert negotiation skills.

  • Ability to build strong broker relationships and a sound understanding of the current commercial insurance market.

  • Sound knowledge of legislative and regulatory requirements for insurance, including treating customers fairly.

  • Developed analytical skills with proven experience of account monitoring and action planning.

  • You'll be pragmatic and a confident decision maker, with meticulous numerical reasoning skills.


  • As a precondition of employment for this role, you must be eligible and authorised to work in the United Kingdom.

    This position has been defined as an Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD) role under the IDD regime which means that in addition to pre-employment screening checks, the successful candidate will be subject to background screening every 4 years with an annual declaration in interim years.
