Full Job Description

  • To offer vulnerable young people the highest quality to young people based on their individual support needs.

  • To provide security and stability for young vulnerable adults aged 16-21 either leaving care, homeless, young offenders, unaccompanied minors, and gang leavers.

  • To provide a lifestyle as near as possible to that of a traditional family.

  • To provide age-appropriate routines and activities to encourage young people to develop their social skills, and to maintain existing practical skills whilst learning new ones.

  • To devise a comprehensive and individualised support plan to meet the young person's personal, social, and emotional needs.

  • To promote the active and positive presence of young people within their local community.

  • To empower young people to exercise choice.

  • Recovery from gang lifestyle

  • Recovery from abuse


  • Recovery from exploitation Assist with Mental health
  • To teach and facilitate young adults how to engage in business and become entrepreneurs


  • In order to achieve these aims, the home will provide:
  • A safe environment built on, Love, boundaries, trust, and Homely Environment

  • The development of a multi-skilled and highly trained staff team.

  • The effective management and supervision of the staff team.

  • The use of effective placement planning and risk assessment

  • The encouragement of positive relationships and investment in the placement from all people involved in the welfare of the young person

  • All inspections will include an examination of appliances for damage that is likely to be of a hazardous nature and likely to cause injury

  • Office/Staff Room, To provide advice, assistance, and support to young people within a supportive, homely, professional, and caring environment. To attend to their practical, physical and emotional needs. To act as an appropriate role model and to work closely with them to enable them to address their difficulties and achieve their optimum potential.


  • To provide high standards of nurturing and therapeutic support to children and young people living in the homes, who have experienced traumatic life experiences, to help them reach their full potential.

    To work within Government Guidance, placing Local Authority requirements and the Company's policies and procedures in order to meet National Standards and meet the needs and achieve good outcomes for the young people in the homes.

  • To communicate effectively with other agencies and professionals and when requested prepare written reports.

  • To provide a caring, supportive and nurturing environment in which young people can feel secure and free from harm.

  • Establishing positive relationships with young people and always offering them unconditional and positive regard.

  • Helping young people gain self-control by challenging unacceptable behaviour and rewarding acceptable, pro-social conduct.

  • Conducting regular keywork sessions.

  • Ensuring the YP is ready for independent living at the age of 18 by providing mock utility bills, ensuring they know how to change light bulbs, apply for jobs etc.

  • Ensuring that each young person's pathway plan is followed and amended as appropriate to reflect their changing needs.

  • To act as a key worker or co-worker for a young person to ensure that the young person's pathway plans are up to date and that all their care needs are being met. To provide a positive role model to be able to offer advice, guidance and assistance where appropriate.

  • Establishing relationships which young people perceive to be positive, warm and rewarding

  • Providing advice, assistance and support on a 1:1 basis to enable young people to address past and present difficulties

  • Providing emotional support at times of difficulty or stress


  • Being ambitious for young people, helping them achieve their goals and optimise their potential
  • Providing support for young people in their education and extracurricular activities, this may include supporting them in the classroom if necessary.

  • Keeping accurate records and providing written reports on young people for planning meetings, reviews or any other meetings as directed by the line manager

  • Empowering young people and facilitating their active involvement in the decision making about their lives and future

  • Acting as an advocate at meetings where the young person is the subject of discussion

  • Encouraging the young person to develop links with the community, attend offsite activities and expand their personal social network.


  • To ensure all duties associated with running the accommodation during a shift are completed to a high standard. Such duties include: log book entries, completing running records, updating weekly planners, fire safety and health and safety checks.

  • Being aware of the aims and objectives of the home and working collaboratively with colleagues to achieve them

  • Attending team/ staff meetings and making a positive contribution to them

  • Actively contributing to the development of the team

  • Receiving and storing information to improve communication

  • Being willing to give and receive feedback on performance with colleagues and managers

  • Providing informal practical and emotional support to colleagues experiencing difficulties

  • Attending and contributing to regular supervision sessions

  • Monitoring the conduct of colleagues and referring on any causes for concern (Whistleblowing)

  • Being familiar with all policies and procedures and adhering to them


  • General Responsibilities
  • Attending young people's meetings and contributing to themReceiving training appropriate to the role and maintaining an up to date training profile

  • Responsibility for the accurate maintenance of financial records appropriate to the duties of the post

  • Responsibility for the health, safety and welfare of self and colleagues in accordance with the requirements of the organisational Health and Safety Policies


  • Special Conditions
  • This post requires the holder to do varying shifts, which include early morning and late evening work, sleep-in/ waking nights and an on call rota system. The post holder also is required to work weekends as part of a rota and Bank Holidays when required.

  • On occasions you may be requested to change your rota at a given notice as per your contract, to ensure the contingencies of the service are covered. This may also include covering an additional sleep-in duty as an emergency measure.

  • In accordance with the guidelines on Health and Safety, to accept responsibility for working within these guidelines and reporting any concerns to the Manager.

  • To undertake such other duties appropriate to the grade of the post and the needs of the Home such as decorating, gardening in order to develop and maintain service delivery.

  • This post requires the holder to have a clear enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check at all times. Changes to personal circumstances which may affect this must be notified to your line manager immediately. Enhanced DBS roles will be reviewed periodically during employment by means of three yearly rechecks. Failure to disclose changes to your status may be detrimental to your employment and you may be subject to disciplinary action.


  • Health and Safety

    The ability to use effective communication and listening skills in a wide range of situations.

    Understand and demonstrate the need for confidentiality and data protection.

    Willingness to develop your skills and practice through training and additional training, which will include working towards a Level 3 in Health and Social care - Children's and Young People's Workforce.

    Able to remain calm under pressure, resilient and nurturing, with a passion for helping children and young people affected by trauma, abuse, and neglect.

    Being empathetic and insightful to the needs of young people who have experienced complexed life situations. This includes managing and containing their emotions, in order to meet their full potential through therapeutic care.

    In order to adapt to changing priorities, being resilient and flexible is important. Ability to act on your initiative as well as working as part of a team.

    Ability to use computer systems competently, including Microsoft computer packages. Proven literacy and numeracy skills are required in this role.

    We offer training to staff to enhance their capabilities.

    We always promote from within, some of our keyworkers have gone on to occupy senior keyworker positions.

    RH4 provides medium size semi-independent units set in the residential areas near the town centres and local amenities. The properties can accommodate from four to six young people and emergency respite.
