TLSE activities are aimed at ensuring that TLSE requirements are managed as an integral part of the whole product life cycle, in order to optimise Life Cycle Cost.

The DRACAS Lead will work within the Through Life Support Engine (TLSE) element of Services Centre of Competence and will have responsibility for conducting DRACAS analysis within one or more domains and will have overall leadership responsibility for the cross-domain DRACAS team.

Primary Purpose of the role:

The DRACAS Lead is part of the cross-domain TLSE capability team and will lead a team of DRACAS Analysts, interacting closely with colleagues and customers in:

  • ILS Management;

  • RAMT and Supportability Engineering;

  • Hardware, Software, Mechanical and Software Engineering;

  • Programme and Product Design Authorities;

  • Systems Integration and Test Engineering;

  • Product Safety Engineering;

  • Quality Assurance;

  • Project and Programme Management;

  • Asset Management;

  • Field Service Engineering;

  • Technical Publications;

  • The End-User community.

  • The primary purpose of the DRACAS Analyst Role is to:

  • Provide support to development and support projects by using the DRACAS process and tools to identify fault-trends and problems, risks and opportunities, cost and performance drivers; propose effective mitigation activities and track to completion.

  • Lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of DRACAS processes within Thales (Chorus II); provide DRACAS Subject Matter Expert advice and support to their team and internal and external Customers. Lead the development of DRACAS-related facilities and / or resource (including people and facilities).

  • Support bids, including producing estimates for DRACAS packages of work as well as providing expert advice to the bid team and bid ILSM on RAMT and DRACAS requirements and the conduct of the DRACAS Programme.

  • Support resource and demand review activities carried out by programme and domain ILSMs as requested.

  • Support the ILSMs in ensuring that all DRACAS tasks are delivered within budget and schedule on all assigned projects.


  • Core tasks and responsibilities:

  • Collate failure/incident data from all appropriate sources for the serviced Projects;

  • Set up new project DRACAS in the software tool (Favoweb) with assistance as required

  • Set targets, measure progress and maintain effective cost and expenditure control within local work programmes.

  • Work within the engineering frameworks set out by engineering management. Ensure a culture of best practice sharing and knowledge exploitation within own area.

  • Seek & share good practice & knowledge to continuously improve own practices.

  • Contribute to relevant Thales Engineering Communities of Interest.

  • Contribute to the development & continuation of successful local supply chain relationships.

  • Set targets for and manage own development with line manager. Seek & share good practice & knowledge to continuously improve own and team practices.

  • Mine historical DRACAS data from various sources to assist bids;

  • Ensure data is entered accurately and coherently on to the DRACAS tool;

  • Identify trends, problems and Cost/Performance characteristics in the incidents;

  • Co-ordinate and assist with root cause analytics to determine the true nature of the occurrence

  • Generate Project DRACAS reports summarising the results and recommending action plans;

  • Support recommended action plans with appropriate business case;

  • Liaise with Project engineering teams and Subcontract Managers to understand and agree DRACAS concerns;

  • Generate and maintain Project DRACAS Plans;

  • Prepare for, convene and participate in DRACAS Review Boards;

  • Attend other Project meetings as required;

  • Ensure assigned Work Packages meet schedule, budget and quality;

  • Generate estimates for DRACAS work;

  • Administer and maintain the Company DRACAS tool as agreed;

  • Comply with all relevant Company management system processes;

  • Comply with the Project management plans and codes of practice.


  • Principal Relationships:

    The jobholder has dual reporting lines in a matrix organisation. For project performance the reporting line is through to the Project Manager, or as otherwise determined. For functional aspects the reporting line is through to the Head of Support Engineering & Design.

    The jobholder is required to develop networks & build key relationships to obtain 'buy-in' and cooperation in order to achieve objectives and fulfil responsibilities. Interfaces and communication shall be with all stakeholders and include, but are not limited to:

  • Tech Illustrator, Degree level education - in relevant engineering, science or technology Degree or equivalent experience is desirable.


  • Or
  • HND qualified with significant engineering experience.


  • Preferably experienced in DRACAS or RAMT, with knowledge of associated and contributory domains.


  • Experience of technical and commercial contact with customers, partners and suppliers.


  • Data input and manipulation skills essential


  • Knowledge of quality management systems desirable


  • A level(s) in maths / Engineering / science desirable.
