Full Job Description

  • Responsible for the delivery of digital geometry for Design driven Surfaces for Interior design within the JLR design process.

  • Work within the PCDS V4 process to ensure that release deliverables are met against the required standards acceptable for engineering whilst maintaining design integrity

  • Responsible for the delivery of digital geometry for multiple Interior themes and initial speed foam models

  • Responsible for all Design Surface Show car Interior Digital Model Build including trimmed components, moving components and all grey zones

  • Responsible for all Design Surface Materiality Interior Data for physical hard model builds

  • Ensure the effective use of resource across multiple Interior Design themes in the early Design Process

  • Ensure there is a culture of Modern Luxury within the team focusing on world class Digital Design solutions

  • Support Design Strategy exploring multiple themes in multiple platforms to allow for strategic packaging decisions

  • Support Design Strategy with fast paced conceptual digital sculpting, driving design decisions working in both Sub-D and NURBs for agility.

  • Responsible for the delivery of exploration seat development. Working with design/internal trim shop/outside suppliers deliver multiple design themes for seats in the most effective agile way

  • Deliver digital geometry for virtual content, both screen based and VR to support ad hoc senior design reviews, board level design reviews and clinics

  • As custodian of inward facing surface data, facilitate a fast-paced release process, keeping it within the internal and external audit rule base and storing electronically all changes whilst still enabling data structure for outward facing customers to efficiently interface with our PLM system.

  • Deliver digital geometry to create full size clay representations of data, supporting theme selection and engineering development

  • Support Materiality/Colour and Materials with geometry production for prototyping, development purposes, paint mules, paint forms and sculptures for Exhibitions

  • Delivering digital geometry to support the production of 3D Printed and RPT components ensuring components are all stackable in the most cost-effective way, along with ensuring all 3D prints have pockets built into the geometry ready for the physical modelling teams

  • Ensuring consistency in digital geometric execution across all vehicle variants and brands

  • Facilitating collaborative Surface, Design and Feasibility reviews with all stakeholders to ensure timely development and maturation of production geometry

  • Facilitating collaborative model build reviews with all stakeholders to ensure timely development and maturation of physical properties.

  • Manage solutions for delivering digital geometry of all cross car-line components (Seats/Steering Wheels/Switch-packs/HDLF)

  • Proactively contribute with solutions to challenges (creative, technical or otherwise) that facilitates the delivery of the design intent

  • Ensuring technical inputs from different sources across the business are reflected on the Design visible A-Surfaces released for business gateways, such as manufacturing feasibility, ergonomics, perceived quality, legal compliance, UX Interface, packaging, etc

  • Proactively contribute with solutions to challenges (creative, technical, timing or otherwise) that facilitates the delivery of the design intent and that the geometry reflects the highest level of geometric quality required for the different programme gateways.

  • Ensuring collaborative working and regular iterative sharing of geometry with customer teams to aid the effective design development

  • Contribute to any internal and external lessons learned from past programmes including generation and implementation of process improvements

  • Continuingly refine digital pipeline to keep pace with technological developments to ensure maximum efficiency

  • Work closely with software partners to continually develop and test tools to aid more efficient and agile design development

  • Develop our industry leading Graduate Digital Sculpting program

  • Develop our industry leading Undergraduate Digital Sculpting program

  • Liaise with HR/Suppliers defining roles and responsibilities for the Team/new hires, growth and development

    Expert Digital modelling knowledge in multiple 3D solutions (NURBs, Polygonal Modelling or Parametric modelling) to produce digital geometry in company's nominated software solutions (ie.: Autodesk Alias, Dassault ICEM Surf, etc)

  • Great organisational and problem-solving skills

  • Strong understanding of Product Creation & Delivery System and ability to manage timing and resource

  • Ability to manage multiple teams and programmes and themes in parallel also accounting for commonality and reuse

  • Strong understanding of physical model building in both clay, hard and virtual.

  • Great communication skills and ability to present confidently and honestly at all levels including to Design and Engineering Directors, Vehicle Line Directors and Chief Programme Engineers. up to enterprise and board level.

  • Great people management skills. In leading diverse teams.

  • Proven experience of aesthetic and technical judgement of surfaces and surfacing requirements

  • Proven ability to interpret design intent

  • Good knowledge of requirements of all customer teams in delivering high quality surfaces for virtual and physical releases

  • Strong market / business acumen for Exteriors and an Agile mindset

  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience
