Full Job Description
A great opportunity for a remote sensing or earth observation professional or researcher, with knowledge of satellite Earth observation (EO) data systems and processing, to join our UK team.
Objective
To contribute to operational and science-based services and system developments for national, and international, based EO programmes.
Responsibilities/ Duties
The successful candidate will be expected to;
Support services to ESA included within the Third Party and Heritage Mission element of the Instrument Data quality Evaluation and Analysis service (IDEAS-QA4EO) and Earthnet Data Assessment Project (EDAP+)
Interact with expert customers on mission data issues
Identify and investigate quality issues and anomalies
Research and respond to technical user queries
Maintain quality control tools and scripts used locally
Prepare posters, publications and presentations at meetings/ conferences
Carry out occasional travel to customer sites
Contribute to technical proposal authoring, to win new work
University degree/MSc (or equivalent) in Geography, Physics, Remote Sensing or a related discipline.
Experience/Understanding, in either an industrial or academic setting;
Supporting operational processing systems for EO data (e.g. level '1' to level '2' and 'level 3' processing)
Working with Optical earth observation data specifically Landsat, Proba-1, JERS-1 and New Space missions (e.g. Planet)
Using and adapting tools for remote sensing data manipulation
Essential Skills
Understanding of EO data processing levels
Understanding of instrument calibration principles (e.g. geometric, radiometric, spectral, etc)
Data handling and manipulation
Technical document authoring
Qualities
