Full Job Description

You will be responsible for leading a team of Outdoor Instructors in delivering multi activity sessions at our specialist outdoor learning centre Cuffley. You will ensure that our high level of customer care is maintained, with safeguarding and Health and Safety at the forefront of all activities., Working With the Activities Manager to ensure we are delivering programmes that excite, educate and engage, whilst being delivered safely and to a high standard, through:

  • Supporting the Activities Manager in implementing staff training and monitoring performance.

  • Assisting in running morning meetings and staff sign-in.

  • Line managing a team of Outdoor Instructors.

  • Up-keep of all activity kit, ensuring regular checks are complete and logging any relevant information/changes

  • Overseeing group arrival and departure process.

  • Ensuring the quality and consistency of activity delivery by Instructors on both residential and day visit groups, in line with company policies and procedures.

  • Informing the Activities Manager of daily events with groups, activity equipment and Instructors.

  • Delivering high standard sessions with groups, providing opportunities for new and existing staff to shadow as part of their development process.

  • Being a point of contact for first aid incidents alongside the Activities Manager.

  • Assisting in the completion of daily operational administration such as compiling group Paperwork.

    No qualifications are required for this role, as all applicants will complete a comprehensive training programme in conjunction with our mentoring scheme upon arrival to Cuffley. However, you do need the following:
  • At least one full season's experience of instructing at an Outdoor Activity Centre, including experience in activities such as Low Ropes, High Ropes, Orienteering, Problem-solving, and Team building.

  • Understanding of the Health and Safety issues required in a busy Outdoor Activity Centre.

  • Ability to work as part of a team and on your own initiative.

  • Willing to develop their own capabilities and qualifications.

  • A high level of interpersonal skills and team values.

  • Good communicator., At least one full season's experience of instructing at an Outdoor Activity Centre, including experience in activities such as Low Ropes, High Ropes, Orienteering, Problem-solving, and Team building.

  • Understanding of the Health and Safety issues required in a busy Outdoor Activity Centre.

  • Ability to work as part of a team and on your own initiative.

  • Drive to develop their own capabilities and qualifications.

  • A high level of interpersonal skills and team values.

  • Good communicator.

  • Ability to use observations and appraisals to create CPD sessions for staff.

  • Previous experience in mentoring staff.

  • Hold Relevant NGB.

  • Cuffley Active Learning Centre (ALC) is set in 90 acres of outstanding natural beauty in south-east Hertfordshire, just 15 minutes from the M25. The predominantly woodland site offers a blend of multi- activity and environmentally - focussed residential and day courses, which are designed to promote the development of Essential Skills, Character and Wellbeing.

    Cuffley ALC provides outdoor learning experiences for children aged 4 - 18, with a wide range of bespoke educational and hands-on school trips. We work closely with schools prior to their travel to ensure that each itinerary meets the needs of the visiting students and teachers., The Active Learning Group and its brands are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and an expectation of this role is to share this commitment.     One Year Fixed term contract from April/May, Possibility to become permanent after one year.
    40 hours per week, predominantly Monday-Friday with occasional weekend work.
