Full Job Description

Target Housing is a charity dedicated to making a difference to the lives of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged people in society. Over the past 30 years we have shown that stable accommodation and support can help transform lives and empower people to achieve independence.

If you want to use your experience to help people change their lives for the better, peer mentoring with Target Housing could be just the opportunity you're looking for.

We are looking for individuals with lived experience to engage with people we support, providing advice and guidance. You could have been in a Target service in the past or helped a loved one with their journey. Our peer mentors will use their experiences to help others make positive changes.

We have offices and services across South Yorkshire and the Humber, we are looking for individuals with lived experienced of mental health, substance misuse, homelessness, being in contact with the Criminal Justice System.

What it's like to be a peer mentor………

Peer mentoring is all about using your experiences to help others. It's a great chance to take something difficult that you've been through and turn it into something positive.

Lots of people don't know what to expect when they first become a peer mentor. But don't worry, we will be there to support you every step of the way.

As a peer mentor you will be a role model and friendly guide. You will show people that change is possible.

We will personalise your role to you. Here are some of the things you might do:

  • Talk to people one-to-one about their needs and any concerns

  • Welcome people to the service and explain what their experience might be like

  • Lead social groups like breakfast clubs, cook an eat sessions and social events.

  • Help to organise events that raise awareness of Target Housing's Services

  • Give talks about your own experience (if you feel comfortable doing it)
