Full Job Description

The client is an autistic and learning disabled man who lives in his own home supported by a small team. He has no verbal communication whilst his self-help skills are minimal.

The client is physically fit. Activities outside his home represent the core of his daily routine. He has an enduring passion for children's books. He will occasionally present the behaviours which can characterise his disabilities.

The client is supported at a ratio of 3:1 throughout the core working day, and 1:1 with on-call support through sleeping nights. The staff rota is based on a 21 day cycle.

In his home you will assist the client in personal care, prepare drinks, snacks and meals, assist in housekeeping and administer medicines. Outside his home you will support the client in his chosen activities.

We implement the Department of Health Guidance on Positive and Proactive Care, using least restrictive interventions wherever possible. This includes dynamic risk assessment, the maintenance of a low stimulation environment and the employment of distraction techniques. We also support the objectives of the NHS England STOMP Project to stop the over use of psychotropic medicines.

Whilst no formal qualifications are required for this position, an understanding of autism and learning disability would be an advantage. Equally important are a calm personality and a willingness to learn.

You will be provided with the necessary training for your role, whilst all staff are encouraged to complete the NVQ in Health and Social Care.

A full UK driving licence would be preferred but is not essential.
