Hydrock are recruiting for a Principal Sustainability Consultant to join our highly influential Smart Energy and Sustainability team! You'll be part of our collaborative and growing team across the UK and will help with the development and delivery of a pipeline of exciting and complex projects.

So, what will you be responsible for?

  • Working with client teams to identify opportunities for sustainable design measures and energy and carbon reduction initiatives including hosting project workshops and attending meetings.

  • Highlighting the most impactful areas of influencing decision-makers to foster improvement and identifying value drivers.

  • Preparation of high-quality energy, sustainability, and climate change reporting to provide advice to clients and project teams and support planning applications and masterplan developments.

  • Effective data management including setting up and maintaining project databases and calculation sheets.

  • Participating in relevant external expert forums to advance and standardise environmental sustainability performance quantification.

  • Training and upskilling junior team members on relevant workstreams and project management activities.

  • Regional business development activities and sales generation.

  • Ability to be (or develop to be) a technical leader under the sustainability team for building environmental modelling/building physics/sustainability related aspects (day/sun, energy modelling, overheating)., Hold chartership / membership of relevant technical institution(s) (e.g., RITP, RIBA, EI, IEMA, IEEM etc.).

  • Net Zero Advisor / decarb / WLC modelling.

  • Familiarity with Climate risk assessment

  • Biodiversity net gain and nature-based solutions.

  • Team/people management skills.

  • Other wider related experience (for example renewables sector).

  • Hold a relevant degree, BEng (Hons) or BSc (Hons) or equivalent/higher.

  • Previous experience working as a consultant and can evidence experience within project delivery, client engagement, project management, financial and people management.

  • Comprehensive understanding of building environmental design / sustainability in the built environment.

  • A proven track record of working within building environmental modelling, building physics and other sustainability models such as daylight/sunlight, energy modelling and overheating.

  • Experience delivering planning reports against Greater London Authority (GLA) policy requirements and detailed knowledge of applying GLA policy in different contexts.

  • Comprehensive understanding of built environmental design and sustainability within the built environment.

  • Fully conversant within IES modelling, including; Radiance, ApacheSIM, SBEM and Macroflow. Knowledge of Apache HVAC would be advantageous but is not essential.

  • Experience working with master planning and planning across a range of asset classes (ideally mixed-use projects).

  • A strong client base of developers, planning consultants, architects and propcos.
