Full Job Description

  • Manager responsible for day to day management of the service delivery for the HSDU.


  • Management of staff and systems related to the decontamination of reusable medical devices.


  • To plan and prioritise the workflow of the department ensuring the optimal usage of staff and equipment and adherence to the required standards


  • To facilitate training for department staff, ensuring the necessary competence is achieved for personnel performing work affecting product quality.


  • Responsible for day to day rotas, ensuring sufficient staff cover at all times.


  • Practice as a qualified Senior Specialist and always provide a high-quality service.


  • Work independently in all areas of the specialty and be able to work as an autonomous practitioner.


  • Apply professional judgement and utilise specialist skills and detailed scientific knowledge when reviewing and interpreting scientific technical data and production reports to ensure a safe service is provided.


  • Deputise for the HSDU Department Manager and Quality Manager


  • Work autonomously, plan your own workload and work with minimal managerial direction.

    A vacancy has arisen for an enthusiastic and well-motivated individual to join the Hospital Sterilisation & Disinfection Unit (HSDU) team.


  • You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the service in HSDU.

    Previous experience in the decontamination of reusable medical devices is essential. The successful candidate will be expected to plan and prioritise the workflow of the department. You will facilitate training for staff and ensure competencies are achieved. You will be expected to attend meetings with customers and deputise for the HSDU Department Manager. You will be responsible for appraisals, disciplinary matters, professional development and training of staff, and be knowledgeable of clinical governance on trust policies.

    1 full time post 37.5 hours working Monday to Friday 9am-5pm. You would be expected to take part in the out of hours on-call service and to cover weekends and Bank Holidays.

    Applicants should have excellent communication skills and hold a postgraduate degree or equivalent level of industry knowledge, with 3 years minimum service in a decontamination environment and be a member of the Institute of Decontamination Sciences (IDSc). Knowledge of the ISO standards for medical devices and UK Medical Devices Regulations is required, plus certified as a qualified user for the complex machinery (as per Health Technical Memoranda)., Disability Confident
