Full Job Description

To carry out general factory duties as directed by the Manufacturing Site Manager and relevant Team Leaders, in order to achieve Company production schedules.

The Factory Operative is key to ensuring the efficient and on time flow through of prepared steel to feed the Welders and fabricated products through to the finishing line. As well as supporting general factory operations by conducting other essential production and project duties such as grinding and fettling, shotblasting, flame straightening, assembly of beams for proof load testing, loading/unloading our finishing line and general factory duties.

  • Shotblasting of heavy steel components.

  • Grinding, fettling, cleaning and preparation of heavy steel.

  • Grinding, fettling, cleaning and de-spattering of welded components.

  • Loading/unloading the finishing line in accordance with safety instructions.

  • Picking and assembling components in the rig for proof load testing operations.

  • Picking and issuing material kits to the Welder Fabricators.

  • Inspection, touch-up and stickering of finished goods.

  • Picking, packing and despatch activities.

  • Completing all work to specification/expectations and achieving production deadlines.

  • Working with minimal supervision, displaying a strong pride in one's work and good eye to detail.

  • Maintaining a safe, clean and organised working environment and tools, working to Company Quality, Safety and Environmental System requirements.

  • Storing, handling and using all gas and chemicals in accordance with Safety Data Sheets, CoSHH and DSEAR Assessments. Reporting any concerns or anomalies to the H&S Manager.

  • Adhering to all Risk Assessments, Method Statements and Safe Systems of Work.

  • Ad-hoc duties to assist the relevant Supervisors, Managers and Operations Director with the smooth running of the factory and warehouse as required.

    Must be able to work as part of a team in a fast-paced heavy steel production environment, and be physically able to cope with typical production duties, including manual handling loads around 15 - 25kgs.

  • Experience in grinding, fettling, cleaning and preparing steel is highly desirable.

  • Experience of shotblasting is highly desirable, but a willingness to regularly shotblast heavy steel components is essential.

  • A positive and confident self-starter with a proactive attitude.

  • Excellent verbal communication skills, with the ability to confidently and professionally communicate with colleagues in both the factory and office.

  • Counterbalance Forklift Truck experience and/or a previous License is highly preferable.

  • A valid Counterbalance Forklift Operator License would be advantageous, but is not essential.

  • A valid Overhead Gantry Crane Operator License would be advantageous, but is not essential.

  • Experience of tack up MIG welding would be advantageous, but is not essential., Counterbalance Forklift Truck: 1 year (preferred)

  • Grinding/Fettling/Deburing: 1 year (required)

  • Grit or Shotblasting: 1 year (preferred)

    Salary: £24,000 - £25,792 Dependent on Experience (approx. £11.54 to £12.40 p/h).

    Two Shift Options (Your Choice Which You Do): Monday to Thursday 08:00 to 17:30 OR 07:00 - 16:30. Friday 08:00 to 13:10 OR 07:00 - 12:10 (total of 40 hours per week). Voluntary overtime available at overtime rates.

    Holiday: 20 days pro-rata plus the Christmas Shutdown period and UK Bank Holidays.
