Full Job Description

Our Rail Infrastructure business is searching for detail oriented and highly skilled RAMSS engineers! Within the wider team, the reliability, safety, and smooth operation of railway systems across mainline and metro projects. You'll analyse and enhance reliability, improve service availability, design for easy maintenance, ensure safety compliance, and develop RAMS plans for rail infrastructure projects. Your role is crucial in maintaining efficient and safe rail transportation for passengers and freight.

You'll team up with our project RAMSS Team at our Siemens Mobility Chippenham Office. Collaborate closely with customer approval authorities, Siemens project delivery, and R&D to align and achieve goals. Although Chippenham hosts the base of the team, you can be based anywhere in the UK.

You'll create impact by

  • Developing effective processes to ensure the safety, reliability, availability, and maintainability of our rail products, systems, and applications.

  • Managing Engineering Safety for a portfolio of UK mainline and metro rail projects, including identifying hazards, conducting hazard analysis, and assessing safety risks.

  • Compiling RAM arguments, Reliability Cases, safety arguments and safety cases for gaining railway authority approval.

  • Monitoring system design and implementation to meet System Safety and RAM requirements throughout the development or change lifecycle.

  • Aligning with effective approaches, legislation, standards, and guidelines.

  • Understanding the risk issues associated with the work and the company's policy on engineering safety.

  • Keeping up to date with risk assessment and risk management issues through continuing professional development.

  • Effectively communicating relevant risk-related information to stakeholders.

  • Liaising with clients and external Independent Safety Assessors.

  • Supporting the development of the department's functional roadmap and other tasks as appropriate to this role.

Are you in?, Your Degree or equivalent in Electrical/Electronic/Computer Science or related field.

  • Proven experience of safety management and safety engineering processes, including safety planning, hazard analysis, safety requirements capture, and safety case development.

  • Solid knowledge of RAM (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability) management and engineering processes, such as RAM planning, RAM analysis, RAM requirements capture, FRACAS, and production of RAM Demonstration reports.

  • Experience or knowledge of producing Hazard Identification, System Hazard Log Management, System Hazard Analysis Reports, and Application Safety Cases (structured to CENELEC 50129).


  • Desirable Requirements:
  • Previous experience in the UK rail industry concerning engineering safety/RAM management of turnkey mainline or mass transit railway projects.

  • Understanding and application experience of verification and validation techniques, including an appreciation of signaling principles testing.

  • Experience with CENELEC 50126/50128/50129 and IEC 61508 standards.

  • Experience in applying the EU Common Safety Method (CSM) on Risk Evaluation and Assessment.

  • Experience with the Application of Control Command and Signaling Technical Specification for Interoperability - CCS NTSN (CCS TSI).

  • Understanding of cybersecurity standards (e.g., IEC 62443, TS 50701).

  • Experience in safety-critical programmable and electronic systems, DOORS Requirements Management Databases and configuration management methods/tools.
