Full Job Description

As a Research Scientist, you will work closely with your Team Leader, VP of Biology, and the Head of R&D to design and formulate research plans and collaborate effectively with other team members to achieve collective goals.
From time to time, it will be required from a Research Scientist to contribute to the filing of patents that may arise from the research and support the delivery of major work programmes with external partners.,

  • Apply cellular and molecular techniques to assay cell biology pathways in iPSC-derived neurons from patients.

  • Study the mechanisms of action of autophagy modulators of the endolysosomal pathway in cellular models of neurodegenerative disease.

  • Conduct focussed compound evaluation for correction of disease phenotypes in endolysosomal biology.

  • Undertake maintenance culture and differentiation of iPSC lines into neuronal populations such dopaminergic neurons and motor neurons.

  • Generate robust and reproducible experimental data by following best lab practices and guidelines.

  • Maintain accurate records of experiments and data.

  • Contribute to wider project planning, including ideas for new research projects.

  • Determine the most appropriate methodologies to test hypotheses and identify suitable alternatives if technical problems arise.

  • Select, follow, and adapt experimental protocols·.

  • Gather, analyse, and present scientific data from a variety of sources.

  • Contribute to internal scientific reports and the presentation of data/papers as required; and regularly contribute to lab team meetings.

  • Manage own research and administrative activities, within guidelines provided by senior colleagues.

  • Undertake translational research projects.

  • Undertake analysis of experimental results and interpretation.


  • Please note, the nature of iPSC culture and differentiation, will require weekend work from time to time.

  • Hold a PhD / DPhil in molecular or cellular biology.

  • Extensive experience in cell culture, preferentially in stem cell (iPSC)-derived models of neurological disorders.

  • Skilled with performing cellular assays such as high-content imaging, electrophysiology, multi-electrode arrays, calcium imaging.

  • Skilled in molecular biology techniques (e.g. qPCR, ELISA's, western blotting).

  • Good track record of peer-reviewed publications

  • Skilled with analysis and interpretation of research data.

  • Able to work independently to plan projects and experiments.

  • Able to meet deliverable and reporting deadlines.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, communication, and organisational skills.
