Full Job Description

  • Support the delivery of safety engineering activities for UWS projects, responsible for the delivery of assigned safety artefacts and requirements in a timely manner;

  • Provide Safety Expertise to your projects, supporting the Project Safety Manager and Project Design Authority and other engineering functions in the delivery of their activities;

  • Liaise with the customer representative for all safety related activities;

  • Ensure that your safety management approach for is in accordance with Thales processes, in addition to customer requirements, including but limited to Def Stan 00-056 or MIL STD 882;

  • Immediately raise any concerns regarding the safety of a product, or the application of policies and processes, and support Product Safety Investigations to resolve these issues;

  • Support the UWS Safety Assurance Manager and Safety Authority in the delivery of their duties to ensure that all UWS projects and systems are adequately safe.

    Knowledge of Safety Management Processes, and experienced in the implementation and delivery of Safety Engineering activities;

  • Knowledge and experience of formal hazard identification and assessment techniques and methods, and IT based Hazard Log management systems;

  • Knowledgeable with respect to product environmental, material and safety related Legislation, Regulation and Standards;

  • Experience within the Defence Domain and working with associated Defence Standards is desirable, or knowledge of equivalent safety management processes from other safety critical domains;

  • Experience of Functional and/or Software Safety, and knowledge of IEC 61508 is desirable, although not required;

  • Knowledge of engineering lifecycle management, its requirements and application;

  • Good people management skills, including working in a multi-disciplined engineering environment.

    We are currently recruiting for a Safety Engineer to grow the team in order to meet the needs of our upcoming projects. This role will support delivery elements of safety engineering tasks for our major projects in the Maritime & Defence sectors.

    We're ideally looking for an individual with prior Safety Engineering and/or System Engineering experience who would want to grow, develop and eventually lead safety topics within our highly regulated Underwater Systems team. This will include owning Safety Engineering topics within the engineering development lifecycle across programmes such as Autonomous Systems and world-renowned, high-criticality defence projects.

    We don't require prior Defence/Maritime experience on this occasion, but it would be advantageous.
