Job Overview

  • The responsibilities of the Security Officer are:


  • Operations

  • Standing behind the barriers visually verifying the authorised identity of staffs as they come into the office.

  • Whilst on duty to remain vigilant and present a welcoming atmosphere to staffs and visitors entering buildings (meet and greet role)

  • To have a comprehensive working knowledge of assignment instructions comply with current amendments and temporary additions.

  • To be thoroughly conversant with telephone, alarm, IT systems, firefighting equipment, CCTV and all other systems or equipment used in the course of their duties.

  • Is to detect and prevent any occurrences that may lead to loss by fire, flood, plant failure, theft, vandalism or any other form of crime and record it in the on site Occurrence book.

  • The reporting line of the Security Officer is direct to the Security Supervisor and will remain so for the foreseeable future.

  • Assist the Security Supervisor during emergency at which time; their role will be as directed by the Security Supervisor.

  • To detect and prevent situations that may lead to accident or personal injury and to ensure that any such situation is promptly reported.

  • To present a suitable image and uphold the Clients prestige and the reputation of Mitie, by dealing professionally with the staff and colleagues at all times.

  • Respond to requests for assistance during their shift.


  • Fire and Emergencies

  • Understand and be able to carry out the role required in emergency situations as directed by the Security Manager.

  • Assist in dealing with first aid incidents within the building.


  • Health and Safety

  • Record and report to the Security Supervisor all faults, health and safety hazards and unsafe working practices in the within the building.

  • Enforce and promote health and safety procedures.


  • Administration

  • Maintain log books and records as laid out in the Assignment Instructions.

  • Answer telephone calls as laid down in the assignment Instructions.


  • Competencies:

    Previous experience of operating at Security Officer level (desirable only).

  • Good costumer care experience preferable.

  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).

  • Effective decision making.

  • Strong people management and leadership skills.

  • Effective time management & organisational skills.

  • Good working knowledge of security and fire systems.

  • Ability to use all Microsoft products and be able to create spreadsheets and managing data.

  • Previous experience of conducting audits and preparing client reports.


  • Excellent knowledge of GDPR and the use of personal data.

    Must obtain a High Security Clearance prior to starting the role.

    Previous experience of operating at Security Officer level (desirable only).
