Full Job Description

Are you looking to advance your career and use your knowledge of special educational needs to have a greater impact on the development of young people?

Are you looking to advance your career and use your knowledge of special educational needs to have a greater impact on the development of young people? We are looking for someone with a desire to support our Academy in helping pupils reach their potential through leading inclusive practice and ensuring that pupils receive the full provision in their Education and Health Care Plans. Working with our SENDCO, this non-teaching role will involve advising and supporting class teams and working with pupils and their families using a solution-focused and flexible mindset.

Nigel Bowes Academy is an Outstanding primary school for children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. By providing a calm and learning-focused environment, our pupils flourish and achieve, leading to accelerated outcomes in all areas of their development. Our school has a community feel and we take the time to ensure we are always striving to achieve the best.

The role of SEND Lead is to coordinate, with the support of the SENDCO, the development and implementation of the SEN policy in order to raise pupil achievement, improve the quality of education provided and provide sustainable support strategies that will have a positive impact on their long-term development. The successful candidate will have a flexible approach, knowledge and experience of working with children in KS1-2 who have social, emotional and mental health difficulties. The post requires someone who is highly resilient, able to work well as a member of a successful team and someone who has highly developed interpersonal skills and a good sense of humour.

What we have to Offer:

  • A visible and approachable senior leadership team and an enthusiastic and committed team of teachers and support staff.

  • A strong support network both within the school and across Ambitions Academies Trust.

  • All staff are part of a professional learning community in which evidence-informed CPD is designed to meet individual needs.

  • Strong potential for career progression.

  • A culture that respects work-life balance and an ongoing commitment to wellbeing with a dedicated Wellbeing Champion.

  • An Employee Assistance Programme including in the moment support and counselling sessions with an external provider.

  • AAT Staff benefits include free eye testing for DSE users through Specsavers, free will writing through Dunham McCarthy Solicitors and reduced price corporate gym membership through BH Live.

  • A competitive pension through The Local Government Pension Scheme for support staff.

  • Should you wish to arrange a visit or an informal discussion regarding the role, please contact Charlotte Hampson, HR Academy Lead at charlotte.hampson@nigelbowes-academy.co.uk
