Full Job Description

As a Senior AR&M Engineer, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary where you will have the opportunity to be involved in complex engineering projects to ensure that the UK's submarines are safe, available, and maintainable.

Day-to-day, you'll build upon proven communication skills to convey complex technical details to a wide range of stakeholders developing domain knowledge to resolve problems and support the Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) Function.

  • Managing the delivery of reliability, maintainability and availability analysis of systems and assets within the submarine enterprise.

  • Generating claims and arguments for Reliability and Maintainability (R&M) performance predictions and substantiating these with evidence in accordance with standards and processes.

  • Management of internal and external stakeholders by providing technical briefs by summarising salient information.

  • Managing and developing a team of Reliability Engineers


  • This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.

  • Understanding of the use of R&M domain metrics such as availability, failure rate, MTBF, MTTF, MART.

  • Proven experience in reliability modelling techniques such as Fault Tree Analysis, Reliability Block Diagrams, and Markov Modelling.

  • Reliability and dependability of defence equipment.

  • Knowledge of R&M theories such as Boolean algebra; Bayesian statistics; Monte Carlo simulation processes.


  • Qualifications for the Senior AR&M Engineer:
  • STEM related Degree.

  • Qualified to minimum of HNC in a STEM discipline (e.g. Mechanical, Electrical, System, Data or Maths). Experience in lieu of formal education would be considered.


  • Security Clearance
    The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
