Full Job Description

We are seeking to recruit experienced Engineers to support our Bridges team on a permanent basis. Typically, you will be responsible for:

  • Owning and leading the design process, encouraging yours and wider teams to deliver the right solutions to the agreed programme, and support those less experienced by technical review, mentoring and advice

  • Managing projects to ensure coordination of multi-disciplinary inputs

  • Managing resources effectively (including remote resource) and efficiently to meet fluctuating workloads

  • Working with Clients and design teams to deliver compliant designs on time and within budget and meeting H&S, CDM, QA and technical review requirements

  • Manage and communicate with identified stakeholders on technical issues, including Contractors, local and remote technical and support teams, political representatives, etc.

  • Developing relationships with other WSP teams to utilise additional resources

    You will be an integral part of our high performing Bridge team, comprising over 20 colleagues. The team is friendly, collaborative and its ethos is based on trust, integrity and fairness. The team is integral to our Local Government Bridges Centre of Excellence, which delivers projects for both private sector and our many nation-wide Local Authority clients, including our platinum client, Leeds City Council, who we have been in partnership with for over 20 years.

    You will have the fantastic opportunity to be involved on a wide range of interesting and significant projects - from major bridge schemes, such as the award winning Regent Street Flyover, through to a diverse range of bridge refurbishment and maintenance improvements as well as bridge inspection and assessment work throughout the UK.

    All our Engineers take on project responsibility, invariably owning their own projects from the very outset and at all stages through to construction. The variance of work opportunities - often from inception to completion - offers excellent prospects for career advancement and development for the ideal candidate.

    Your role will be at the heart of our high performing team, using your skills and expertise to help us continue driving forward in terms of both technical quality and service efficiency

  • Chartered (ICE or IStructE)

  • Recent, demonstrable experience in conducting design and assessment of highway structures in various materials using Eurocodes and the DMRB

  • Experience in undertaking feasibility studies, design, maintenance and supervision of bridge related projects

  • Experience in project and resource management with good financial and commercial awareness.

  • Experience of leading Inspections of Highway Structures.

  • Experience of management and design of Highway Structures maintenance projects.

  • Knowledge of highway construction and delivery methods.

  • Knowledge of construction contracts and experience of preparation of contract documents

  • Knowledge of Construction Design Management 2015 and associated duties.

  • Excellent working knowledge of Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) standards, methods of working & Specification for Highway Works.
