Full Job Description

The role of the Senior Maintenance Support Engineer (Voice) is to be the subject matter expert of these voice platforms, providing technical support to maintenance, project teams and the user community.

Typical roles include planning upgrade works (hardware and software) advising Project Managers on renewal plans and priority focus. Working alongside the Product development teams to identify new solutions and systems to deliver functionality improvement, whole life cost benefit and reliability, interfacing with suppliers in 3^rd line support contracts, carrying out technical investigations, monitoring spares and system performance., 1. Provide [Tele Switching Systems] engineering input to the determination of appropriate engineering maintenance regimes and activity volumes for specific routes in accordance with company policies, standards and specifications. Assist in providing assurance as to whether such regimes are being followed.

2. Provide a comprehensive [Tele Switching Systems]engineering support service focussed on specified delivery units, but also supporting other delivery units when required.

3. Provide technical briefings associated with [Tele Switching Systems]to engineers in specified delivery units in order that the purpose, as well as the content of standards, specification, etc. is understood.

4. Monitor and strive to improve the technical competence of engineers associated with [Tele Switching Systems]in specified delivery units.

5. Review and make recommendations on derogation and non-compliance applications to [Tele Switching Systems]related standards.

6. Review and monitor progression of potential improvements to [Tele Switching Systems]related standards from specified delivery units; provide feedback to the originators.

7. Provide advice and guidance to the delivery unit engineers in the production of business focussed renewal proposals and approve them as appropriate.

8. Provide [Tele Switching Systems]engineering input to the implementation of the maintenance audit programme.

9. Monitor and analyse the quality and performance of [Tele Switching Systems]related assets in specified delivery unit geographies and instigate corrective action as required.

· Chartered engineer, or able to demonstrate equivalent competence

· Substantial [Tele Switching Systems] engineering experience

· A detailed understanding of the maintenance of [Tele Switching Systems] assets

· A sound knowledge of the relevant technical, safety and performance standards

· Holds relevant professional licences and technical qualifications, or capable of achieving within reasonable timescales

· Holds valid UK driving licence, or eligible and willing to obtain

Desirable

Understanding and experience of railway infrastructure maintenance

Experience of undertaking engineering assurance activities, including competence assessment

Network Rail has an extensive network of voice communication systems across Southern region that provide secure communication between Railway signallers, Control room staff and electrical control room operators. These direct telephone concentrator systems are of varying ages and technology platforms but are being replaced to modern IP based systems with multi-functional user interfaces. In additional switched voice services exist to support our business systems.

Salary: Band 3B £46,701 - £52,538 (plus Inner London Allowance £3,270)
